
Location
Eastbury, Northwood, with travel across London, South East and occasional UK and overseas sites including Gibraltar, Cyprus and Germany.
Hours
Full Time - 37 hours per week, typically 08:00-16:00. Opportunities for additional earnings through travel time, overtime and on-call duties. Work is primarily field-based with some overnight stays as required.
Salary
£31,960 per annum plus £4,000 Market Skills Allowance and £3,300 Outer London Weighting Allowance. Additional allowances include travel time, on-call and recall-to-duty allowances where applicable.
About the Role
Join the Ministry of Defence Security Services Group (SSG) and be part of the team protecting the UK’s most important Defence and Government sites. You will deliver high-quality technical support by installing, maintaining and auditing advanced electronic and physical security systems. Managed from the Woolwich office but tasked from home, you will travel across your region to carry out your duties, supporting Defence operations both in the UK and overseas.
Full system training is provided, building on your existing electrical, electronic or security engineering background. You will act as a primary point of contact for customers, respond promptly to maintenance and installation enquiries, participate in a 24-hour on-call rota, prepare cost estimates, supervise subcontractors, and ensure compliance with health and safety standards. You may also support and mentor apprentices.
This role offers variety, independence, ongoing professional development, and the use of a fully equipped, non-liveried company vehicle eligible for personal use. You will work with modern security systems on unique and sensitive sites, playing a direct role in protecting Defence and Government operations.
Experience
- Relevant engineering background, apprenticeship or qualification in Intruder Detection Systems, Perimeter Intruder Detection Systems, CCTV Systems, or Access Control Systems.
- Experience in electrical, electronic or security engineering is desirable.
- Ability to manage customer relationships and deliver excellent service.
- Willingness to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota and occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications
- Recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship in relevant fields.
- Full UK Driving Licence with a maximum of 6 penalty points (driving is a job requirement).
- Desirable qualifications include:
- Engineering Council membership
- Security Institute membership
- HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent
- NVQ/SVQ Level 3 or ONC/OND in Electronic Security Systems (IDS, VSS, etc) or equivalent.
