About the Role
Join Synnovis, the UK’s leading and fastest growing pathology company, working in partnership with major NHS Foundation Trusts to set the standard for future pathology services. As a Band 3 Administrative Assistant in Histopathology, you will support the Histopathology administrative team across several leading NHS hospitals. This office-based, patient-focused role involves assisting scientists and clinicians in delivering vital diagnostic services related to cancer and disease pathology. You will contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the Histopathology office, reporting to the Histopathology Operations Manager, and ensuring efficient administrative support aligned with corporate objectives.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your administrative and people skills through interaction with patients, clinical and non-clinical colleagues. You will be involved in maintaining office protocols, implementing health and safety procedures, liaising with IT and medical staff, and supporting new staff with office procedures. The position is based primarily at the Royal Brompton Hospital with duties across multiple sites and will be part of a modernising pathology network transitioning to a state-of-the-art Hub laboratory.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to the Histopathology Operations Manager and office team
- Liaise with Office Manager, administrative staff, medical and technical personnel
- Maintain office protocols and departmental filing systems
- Implement Health and Safety procedures within the office
- Supervise new staff regarding office procedures
- Manage telephone answering service and maintain tissue transfer log database
- Organise office workflow and provide cover to ensure timely processing of workload
- Receive and provide advice to visitors, staff, and patients tactfully
- Maintain high standards of secretarial work and communication within the department

Requirements

Experience
- Previous secretarial or administrative experience, preferably in a medical environment
- Desirable: experience in organising, supervising, and monitoring workflow within an administrative setting

- Enthusiastic and self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills
- Able to communicate effectively with patients, clinical and non-clinical colleagues
- Organised, accurate, and able to maintain concentration on precision-based tasks

Qualifications
- Good standard of education, GCSE level or above

Skills & Knowledge
- Proficient in office and computer skills including Word, Excel, and Access
- High degree of numeracy
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Strong organisation and planning abilities
- Desirable: audio typing skills
