HMRC’s National Compliance & Logistics (NCAL) is a national business with teams based across 9 locations.
The teams have responsibility for the timely delivery of work to compliance staff throughout the country as well as arranging face-to-face appointments with customers and their agents, obtaining customer records, and preparing analysis reports for caseworkers to begin their interventions.

As an AO Tax Compliance & Logistics Caseworker, you will be part of the National Compliance & Logistics (NCAL) team where you will contribute towards managing the receipt, flow, and delivery of casework to other tax compliance teams within HMRC.
This operational activity will include such things as first contact, data acquisition, intervention booking and logistics (matching tax risk to capability).
Up to 50% of your time will involve customer contact via telephone and/or correspondence by email or letter to support the resolution of tax related queries or risks.
You will carry out appropriate compliance checks across a range of casework from error to evasion, encompassing Corporation Tax, VAT, Intrastat, Income Tax, PAYE, Customs & International Trade, Betting & Gaming, Oils, and Environmental Taxes.
What will I be doing?
The details for the job will involve:
Preparing compliance cases ready for customer contact, ensuring all relevant information is obtained from HMRC systems. Highlighting compliance cases which cannot be progressed for alternative action. Contacting customers by telephone to book interventions with HMRC caseworkers, and/or obtain records to be sent via Dropbox links. Issuing secure data links and correspondence via email and letter in line with HMRC guidance and restrictions. Completing all actions on HMRC systems to meet professional standards. Distributing compliance cases to the right caseworkers via HMRC systems within agreed time frames. Contacting customers by telephone, email, or letter to discuss specific requests such as approvals or repayments. Processing of requests such as approvals or repayments via HMRC systems and guidance. Managing a variable workload often working to tight deadlines. Learn and upskill on new ways of working as required. Work well with others in a team environment, adapting to changing priorities and business needs quickly.

Appropriate training and learning will be provided, to ensure you have the skills required to successfully perform your role, continue your development and achieve the required Compliance Professional Standards as an AO Tax Compliance & Logistics Caseworker
Please note that during your training period we will need you to work Monday to Friday within HMRC standard operating hours, for a period of up to 12 weeks. This is even if you have an agreed Flexible Working Arrangement in place.
Working arrangements
Our roles are 37 hours per week reflecting the agreed Departmental Working Arrangements (DWA). National Compliance and Logistics (NCAL) “standard operating hours” are 7am to 8pm from Monday to Friday.
Part-time working opportunities (minimum 22 hours per week covering various arrangements during our operating hours) and flexible working arrangements can be requested. It depends on the business area whether these can be agreed, so we’ll work it out on an individual basis.
