About the Role
United Colleges Group (UCG) is a leading education provider in London with a strong commitment to supporting local communities. As a Learning Support Assistant within the Supported Learning department, you will work closely with young adults who have learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Your role will involve actively participating in activities alongside students and providing support during lessons. This includes assisting with personal care needs and mobility challenges such as physical support on stairs, helping students board minibuses, transfers from wheelchairs to toilets, and using hoists safely.
The role requires patience, a calm demeanor under pressure, and a positive attitude towards students. You will support individuals and groups, including those on the autistic spectrum, with profound and complex needs or challenging behaviours. There is an opportunity to receive specialist training and develop your practice in this rewarding environment.
UCG offers a range of benefits including generous annual leave, a defined-benefit pension scheme, interest-free season ticket loans, cycle schemes, free sight tests, and enhanced maternity and paternity leave schemes.
Experience
Previous experience supporting individuals with learning difficulties or disabilities is desirable but not essential. A willingness to learn and develop specialist skills is important.
About you
You must be patient, calm under pressure, and maintain a positive attitude towards students. Good communication skills are essential, including the ability to use clear language and listen effectively. You should be able to provide excellent support to students with a range of needs, including those with challenging behaviours.
An understanding of safeguarding procedures for young people and vulnerable adults is required.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are required for this role, but a commitment to ongoing training and professional development is expected.
