Job overview
To deliver a strategic procurement service for the Business, with primary focus on specific/allocated portfolio of sourcing categories across business as usual and tranformation and contribute significantly to the delivery of procurement projects wthin key markets, ensuring contract compliance, sustainable cost improvements, and the delivery of a wide range of associated benefits.
To meet customer requirements, through Procurement best practise, by demonstrating value for money, through compliance with category priorities and contracts, and by actively managing the market place through development of key strategies for supplier and contract management.
Leading on Procurement aspects of Transformation, within defined areas and being a key point of contact and escalation within new business focus areas.
Supporting the Head of Procurement by analysing current spend in specific categories across both business as usual and tranformation areas to support the development of procurement strategies to enable the delivery of sustainable cost efficiencies and savings.
Main duties of the job
Member of the Procurement Team
Support the Head of Procurement in the development of Purchasing / Category / Supplier strategies.
Drive the identification and implementation of Category / Supplier strategies that meet business requirements
Provide strategic direction to relevant colleagues, ensuring tactical decisions are aligned to (and enable) future strategies
Responsible for managing suppliers across highest spend service lines
Lead identification and implementation of cost reduction initiatives across relevant service lines
Negotiate prices with suppliers and communicate agreements to the appropriate stakeholders
Achieve project and annual savings targets, and track variation each month
Manage and maintain supplier contracts to ensure supplier and Synnovis contractual commitments are met
Address non-compliance to contracts
Monitor supplier performance and lead rectification efforts if targets are being missed
Seek and implement value improvements through analysis of market trends, cost drivers, customer requirements, business environment, and industry best practice
Maintain relevant documentation from projects & suppliers so that agreements and supplier contacts are easy to locate and understand
Proactively manage supply risk and maintain mitigation strategy for highest-risk suppliers
Maintain up to date knowledge base of relevant key suppliers and trends within the category
Contribute to the development of business cases and cost/benefit analysis to effectively align with stakeholder requirements
Identify best practices, forecast customer requirements, and monitor changes in business environments to minimise expenditure and secure best value from suppliers

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Supplier Management
Own Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) activities that propose and deliver continuous improvement activities
Maintain and communicate the preferred supplier and approved product/service lists to stakeholders
Prepare and collect data relating to service level agreements and contracted performance measures, regularly meeting with key suppliers to manage the relationship.
Develop supplier and stakeholder communications on a broad range of issues as required by business needs.
Enable the on-time delivery of goods and services through effective working with suppliers and stakeholders.
Undertake activities with suppliers and stakeholders that improve compliance to purchasing processes
Stakeholder Management
Develop relationships with stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and maintain appropriate stakeholder maps.
Liaise proactively with stakeholders to identify opportunities to support their assigned business areas to meet their objectives.
Participate in and actively promote Procurement development throughout Synnovis, and promptly respond to any stakeholder issues or suggestions relating to the spend category.
Regularly meet with key stakeholders and suppliers to understand their issues or concerns and propose solutions that would improve purchasing practice.
Educate stakeholders on purpose and critical content of procurement processes
Develop stakeholder working relationships to leverage opportunities and increase business effectiveness.
Lead different Procurement-only and multi-functional initiatives to enhance the presence and delivery of the Procurement team.

Deliver savings on all purchasing activity.
Manage all 3 rd party spend for allocated service lines
Reduce the volume of transactional activity done by the procurement team.
Increase the level of awareness of procurement across the business.
Conducts procurement activity ethically and in accordance with best practice and Synnovis policies.
Maximises Synnovis purchasing power to improve its competitive edge and to deliver best value.
At Synnovis, we are currently shaping the future of pathology services by creating a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network with our NHS partners. A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London. For now, the job you are applying for will be based at one of our hospital sites however, from 1 April 2024 our people and services will start to move to our Hub laboratory in Blackfriars, Southwark, SE1, with some work remaining in refurbished essential services laboratories across our hospital network, focusing on the rapid turnover of urgent tests. Currently our offices are based in Paris Garden, Blackfriars SE1, or Francis House, Southwark SE1 however at present these are temporary locations. We expect to move to new offices in the Hub building located in Blackfriars in 2024.
Our Team is dynamic and agile with two days rarely being the same. As a key part of delivering the Transformation vision, as a Category Manager you will be relied upon to provide expertise and commercial guidance to the organisation. Working closely with Synlab Group and colleagues across the organisation you will play a significant role in developing the team into a commercial centre of excellence.
Synnovis is a pathology partnership between SYNLAB UK and Ireland, and the NHS, including sites, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, to deliver and transform pathology services across South East London.
The partnership provides services to 1.7 million people living in South East London, as well as to hundreds of thousands of patients from outside the region who use local healthcare services.
