Work location: 145 King Street, Hammersmith, W6 9XY Vetting requirements: Enhanced DBS Check Job Reference: LBHF618138 About the role: Hammersmith and Fulham Council declared a climate and ecological emergency and have set an ambitious net zero carbon emissions target for the borough by 2030. The Climate Engagement and Behaviour Change Lead is a role for an inspiring communicator, passionate climate leader, and effective change maker. The role leads the council’s approach to community engagement, social action and consultation in the context of addressing the climate and ecological emergency. The postholder will work closely with colleagues in the Climate Team and across the Council to deliver on the council’s vision to tackle climate change, building on work to embed a low-carbon culture across the organsiation. The postholder will additionally work with, support and drive progress on net zero among stakeholders in the wider borough including community groups, academic partners, businesses, schools and other organisations. Workstreams will include changing behaviour across the borough through evidence-based and innovative techniques; the H&F Climate Alliance which is a collaborative network for all organisations to work towards the net-zero carbon emissions target; and the council’s value of ‘Doing things with residents not to them’, with reference to socially and economically excluded residents while understanding the importance of engaging the borough's high emitters. The successful applicant will need to work strategically across the organisation to proactively engage with staff, third sector organisations, amenity groups and residents’ organisations to increase civic engagement; participation and involvement in the climate change agenda. The postholder will need to have excellent knowledge of the climate crisis, an interest in environmental issues, exceptional interpersonal skills and be able to manage staff and work in a dynamic team environment. The workload will be varied, diverse and results focused. The role includes effective delivery of digital platforms that enable community activities, events, ‘place shaping’ and engagement mechanisms that bring residents, council services and partner agencies together around tackling the climate and ecological emergency.
