As Clinical Governance and Improvement Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of diagnostic services within one of the UK’s most ambitious pathology transformation programmes. This role goes beyond governance; it offers the opportunity to influence quality, safety, and innovation across Primary Care and Phlebotomy services.
You will lead the embedding of a robust governance and quality framework, working closely with Strategic Clinical Leads, senior managers, and external partners to ensure services are safe, responsive, and continuously improving. Your responsibilities include chairing Governance, Risk & Quality meetings, leading incident reviews, supporting clinical governance, and driving a culture of quality and learning.
This position offers strategic influence, cross-system collaboration with NHS Trusts and ICBs, professional growth through exposure to transformation programmes, and the chance to make a meaningful impact on patient safety and service excellence. You will be part of a modernisation programme moving 70% of services to a state-of-the-art Hub laboratory in central London, supporting a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network.

Main Duties
- Lead and embed a high-performing, patient-focused quality culture across pathology services
- Chair Governance, Risk & Quality meetings ensuring robust reporting and alignment with Synnovis frameworks
- Lead clinical incident reviews under PSIRF, identify trends, and implement improvements
- Use service user feedback and Quality Alerts to enhance service delivery
- Provide expert advice on regulatory compliance and liaise with clinical stakeholders
- Identify training needs and support governance education and CPD opportunities
- Monitor risk and compliance, supporting senior managers in timely responses
Qualifications
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist (Essential)
- Governance or Risk Management qualification (Essential)
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (Desirable)
- Green Belt qualification in improvement methodology (Desirable)
Experience
- Extensive experience at clinical governance management level (Essential)
- Strong knowledge of pathology disciplines and community services (Essential)
- Proven experience organising large-scale CPD or training events (Essential)
- Experience in data management, analysis, and reporting (Essential)
- Experience implementing LEAN methodologies in clinical or scientific settings (Essential)
- Experience leading and chairing structured meetings with action tracking (Essential)
- Experience working across organisational boundaries such as ICBs, NHS Trusts, and external partners (Desirable)
- Experience using Power BI or similar OPMS software (Desirable)
Skills & Knowledge
- High level of computer literacy including Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Visio (Essential)
- Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams (Essential)
- Ability to interpret and present complex data to inform decision-making (Essential)
