Closing date: Friday 27 September, 5pm Contact for questions: [email protected] About the role This is an exciting opportunity for a person with some experience in a communications/social media role to support the development of Community Energy projects across London, tackling climate change and supporting a move towards a more inclusive and sustainable future. As a Communications Officer, you will help Repowering London create a stream of engaging content and outreach materials that get information about our projects and campaigns in front of London communities, potential partners and funders. We are looking for someone with a creative outlook and who is committed to creating positive change, building stronger communities and tackling the climate emergency. About Repowering London Repowering London, a social enterprise, is London’s most established Community Energy group, having established the first and largest Community Energy projects on social housing in the UK. We have developed an award-winning model which has allowed us to develop local energy co-ops across London. Our consensus-driven, participatory approach allows us to support individuals, community groups and Local Authorities to save money, reduce energy usage and support wider decarbonisation efforts, including London’s net-zero targets. Person specification The right candidate will be interested in learning how to build stronger communities and tackling climate change. You will be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment and working on your own initiative with support from the wider team and the Communications Manager. We are open to applicants with a range of skills and backgrounds, but for this role we will be looking for: Excellent written and spoken English Experience of using key social media tools (including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) – including content creation, planning and scheduling Ability to use basic design tools to produce leaflets, case studies, and other materials, adhering to our existing templates, brand guidelines and tone of voice (primarily using Canva) Ability to use WordPress to create and edit posts and pages Ability to translate technical subjects (such as retrofit technology) and challenging topics (such as the climate emergency) into digestible, approachable and engaging content Ability to prioritise tasks, work to agreed deadlines, and work collaboratively across a number of teams. The following are not essential for the role but would be good to have: Experience with Canva Experience with Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to create and edit documents Experience with CRM tools for email, newsletter and forms creation. Understanding of social media analytics for impact measurement Photography skills Videography/Video editing skills for social media An understanding of how to engage with a range of diverse audiences. An interest in community engagement and renewable energy – and in bringing people together to meet the challenge of the climate emergency. Your role as our Communications Officer: You will be a key part of Repowering London’s communications team, ensuring that it can respond to our colleagues’ needs quickly and creatively. Your work will also feed into Repowering London’s fundraising strategy, allowing the organisation to grow and increase our impact. You will work closely with Repowering London’s Communications Manager and will interact with other members of the team on a regular basis. You will need to be flexible and proactive and enjoy working across a wide range of subject matter and formats on your own initiative. This is a great opportunity for someone wishing to work on a wide variety of communications tasks and make a big impact within a truly collaborative team. Your role and responsibilities will include: Working with the Communications Manager to create a steady flow of social media content that supports our projects and campaigns. This may include attending in-person events on occasion to capture content. Monitoring and maintaining our social media channels – including posting and scheduling in line with our organisational values and tone of voice. This includes responding to comments and direct messages, with reference to other team members where appropriate. Supporting the Communications Manager to create on and offline materials, including blogs, leaflets, explainers, case studies, and FAQs to support our community engagement and fundraising work. Working with our Community Leads and Volunteers to create materials that support the development of our local Community Energy co-operatives. Undertaking website updates using Wordpress and Elementor Produce a bi-monthly newsletter using a CRM platform, including news and image gathering from the wider team Deputising for the Communications Manager in their absence.
