About Us:
At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we work collaboratively to help local residents achieve a great quality of life. From housing to healthcare, we collectively strive to adopt the most relevant and cutting-edge approaches to dealing with every person and every situation.
Markets and street trading are a vital part of what makes Kensington and Chelsea a great place to live and work. We’ve got world-famous department stores, diverse high streets and a fantastic hospitality sector, but it’s our eclectic artisans and independent businesses that bring our streets to life. And that’s where our Culture Services department comes in.
The Role:
As a Contracts and Enforcement Officer, you’ll ensure the smooth and lawful operation of all markets and street trading services. You’ll monitor and supervise the performance of the Council’s recycling and refuse contractor. Working in partnership with our contractor’s, you’ll solve a variety of issues raised by residents, landlords and waste management. On top of these duties you will work with facility teams and contractors to manage the large number of storage facilities that are operated by the Street Trading Office.
The role looks to promote a safe market community space for all to enjoy, residents, traders and visitors alike. No two days are the same and you’ll be on your feet and out in all weathers to ensure this. From the monitoring of all forms of waste management to graffiti to obstructions on the highways. You’ll monitor the work of operatives, take note of unlicensed scaffolding and keep an eye out for any and all issues relating to roads and highways. You’re there to keep the community looking great for our residents and traders.
Your work will support the administrative team and the wider network of enforcement officers. The needs of our traders are dynamic and varied and it’s important that you’re on the ball when on the clock. From site inspections to environmental audits, logging daily traders and generally being a positive, reassuring presence on the streets.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
This role requires a good working knowledge of street trading legislation and a desire for the highest possible public realm standards. Your positive approach to work is supported by your extensive experience in the industry. A brilliant communicator, you enjoy interacting with traders, buskers and visitors with the ability to spot and analyse problems as and when they arise. You’ll have good written and verbal communication skills, some relevant IT capabilities and a genuine interest in the environment.
