There will be a requirement to work some weekends and evenings The Horniman Museum and Gardens is a unique attraction in south east London where world cultures and the natural world are brought together for everyone to enjoy. The Museum holds internationally important collections of anthropology and musical instruments, as well as a popular natural history gallery and Aquarium. The 16 acres of beautiful Gardens feature a tropical Butterfly House and offer stunning views across London. We are looking for a Digital Assistant to have day-to-day responsibility for the Horniman’s website, intranet and social media. You will generate or edit much of our day-to-day content (written, imagery, video, audio) in line with our campaign and plans, support and contribute to digital media activities, as well as provide administration support. It is an exciting time to join the team, as we are working on a major project - Nature + Love - over the next few years. You will be a good digital all-rounder with exceptional knowledge of digital and social media platforms, an interest in digital developments and be passionate about creating fun, interesting content. You will have experience of working with content management systems and using a variety of social media platforms in a business context, as well as generating content. At ease producing short form video (like reels) and comfortable with meme and internet cultures. The closing date for completed applications is 10am on Monday 19 August 2024. JOB DESCRIPTION Job title Digital Assistant Section Digital - Communication and Income Generation Reports to Digital Manager Responsible for No responsibility for staff. Some supervision of volunteers occasional Hours of work 35 hour week (including weekends and evenings when required) Main purpose of the job Take day-to-day responsibility for the Horniman’s website and social media content, contribute to marketing and communications campaigns alongside colleagues, support digital media activities within the Horniman and provide administrative support for our customer data capture and performance reporting. Section description The Digital team is responsible for managing audience-facing digital activities across the Horniman, ensuring that we continue to grow visitor numbers on site and online, and attract new audiences. The team coordinates campaigns for the Horniman’s public programme including exhibitions, events and activities. They also contribute to the growing awareness of the Horniman's important collections. The team manages the website, and social networks like Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok and a wide range of other social media platforms, review sites like Google and Trip Advisor, as well as on-site digital screens and our Intranet, Hornet. The team works closely with other departments to encourage use of digital technology and communications throughout the Horniman. Social media support (35%) Provide day-to-day support for the Horniman’s social media channels (e.g. post for us, update Facebook, Instagram etc, respond and engage with audiences) in consultation with the Digital Manager and Digital Coordinator. Proactively source, produce and co-ordinate social media and digital content from across the Horniman, including video and audio production, identifying high impact content and maintaining tone of voice, with an increasing emphasis on short form video (like reels). Seek out opportunities to join in with sector wide social opportunities, such as popular threads or memes. Advise on new social media channels alongside the rest of the team and implement appropriate tactics and plans. Digital content production and management (30%) Ensure the Horniman Museum and Gardens website is kept up to date, with appropriate content to promote activities, provide collections access and engage our audiences. Ensure Hornet, the Horniman’s intranet is kept up to date with regular news, images and updates, working with staff to communicate news internally. Develop short form video content aligned with our calendar, projects and programme, for social channels, as well as contribute to longer form video content projects. Source, produce and co-ordinate digital content from across the Horniman, both written and visual, making regular contributions to our blog, trails and activities. Ensure adherence to content style guides, standards and branding guidelines. Maintain overall site information architecture, ensuring the structure is clear and consistent for our audiences. Advise and contribute to on-going digital and web developments within the Horniman. Marketing and engagement (15%) Deliver social media / digital campaigns to promote the Horniman Museum and Gardens, its exhibitions, events and activities to a range of audiences in collaboration with colleagues. Deliver social media / digital campaigns to promote engagement with the Horniman’s collections and increase usage of our online collections for a range of audiences in collaboration with colleagues. Oversee the content updating for on-site digital screens. Supply images to internal and external stakeholders as required for publication. Database analytics and administration (15%) Monitor website and social usage, and regularly report on site performance against key performance indicators. Monitor the Horniman’s Google Adwords account and optimise our usage to improve our reach and click throughs. Contribute to measuring Horniman analytics against sector benchmarks. Provide administrative support for the website development project and other projects. Assist the Digital Manager and other colleagues in analysing and interpreting data to identify trends and opportunities. Produce of regular performance monitoring reports. Training and Development (5%) Provide training and support to Horniman staff and volunteers in the production of content, social media use, and the use of the CMS. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and overview of relevant developments in the field, attend training seminars, cultural sector events and networking events.
