We are seeking a high calibre professional with experience in energy regulation, policy and market design to join our Regulation Team and work with the rest of the business to achieve our mission. People with experience across both wholesale and retail markets, or with deep expertise in retail regulation and policy are particularly encouraged to apply. We are open to those earlier in their careers with the potential to develop quickly, as well as people with more experience able to work more independently. The Regulation Team has been at the forefront in providing solutions to these challenges, drawing from experience across the business. With the new Government’s goal of Clean Energy by 2030 and a renewed focus on energy affordability and home decarbonisation, we are looking to build up policy expertise across the team for the next phase of market design and regulation work. Improving the energy wholesale and retail markets is critical to our mission. Significant change is needed to today’s wholesale market to create an efficient renewable system by using the millions of flexible low carbon assets across the country. The retail market also needs to drive faster innovation, better service and better value if it is to be successful in helping people decarbonise their homes and reduce their energy bills. What you'll do whether working on retail or wholesale markets, or a combination of both, you will: Develop and obtain internal buy-in for Octopus Energy’s positions on market design and regulation, using robust analysis as well as expertise drawn from the business Create advocacy strategies, working with our communications and public affairs team and building partnerships with other bodies to improve our chances of success Represent our interests in meetings and industry forums, building trust and credibility with Ofgem, DESNZ, consumer bodies and other policy makers as needed Provide compelling position papers and well crafted responses to consultations Work with relevant parts of the business to plan for and implement upcoming regulatory and market changes What you'll need A good understanding of at least one of electricity wholesale market design or retail market regulation Experience in energy or in another regulated industry (finance, water, telecom etc) as a consultant, a regulator/Government official, or a regulatory specialist in a consumer body or regulated company. Those with experience in another regulated industry will be able to demonstrate they can apply this learning to the energy industry Strong research and analytical skills Strong written and verbal communications skills, able to translate complex issues clearly to non-specialists Intermediate excel, strong slide deck and good project management skills A track record that demonstrates you will fit with our ways of working A good understanding and commitment to our mission and business model Why else you'll love it here Wondering what the salary for this role is?
