1x Mechanical Engineer
1x Mobile Engineer - Multi trade
There is an opportunity to join Islington Council’s Corporate Landlord Service as either a Mechanical Engineer or Mobile Engineer (Multi-trade). We are looking for two people who will join the team responsible for the repair and maintenance of The Waste and Recycling Centre and other depot buildings in Islington. The successful applicants will be responsible for planned and preventative maintenance as well as reactive and emergency repairs.
For the Mechanical role you will need experience in this area of building maintenance and for the Mobile Engineer role you will need experience in a wide range of trades to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, tiling, decorating (this list is not exhaustive). There is a requirement to use digital systems for receiving and keeping accurate records of assigned tasks so experience in using IT in practical situations is essential. Excellent communication skills are required to manage relationships with the many stakeholders that rely on these key buildings.
The two posts are essential safety critical roles so you will have a working knowledge of all relevant legislation and policy related to Health & Safety at work. Experience is needed in managing small projects and to work unsupervised in a variety of settings.
- You will be required to carry out all works in accordance with appropriate risk assessments and safe systems of work developed in conjunction with Corporate Health and Safety and in accordance with priorities detailed by the
- You will work under the supervision of the Building Services Engineer.
- You will be responsible for various mechanical and electrical works at a range of sites across the borough, both scheduled (i.e. Planned Preventative Maintenance) and reactive works. You will maintain communications via telephone and other mobile devices.
- You will be required, due to the nature of your work, to complete works inside and outside, you will be exposed to all weather conditions and may at times be exposed to considerable noise and unpleasant working conditions.
- You will be required, due to the nature of your work, to undertake works that are at times physically demanding requiring awkward postures.
- You will be required to work with Information Communication Technology (ICT) systems such as Concerto in order to receive, monitor and sign off maintenance tasks.
- Your work will require you to work alone in accordance with the ‘Lone Working’ procedure with minimum supervision and in a team as directed by the M&E Manager.
- You will need to be capable of effectively prioritising works in order to respond to deadlines involving frequently changing circumstances and conflicting priorities including emergency situations and
- You will provide appropriate job numbers, site address and buyer ID’s when purchasing materials from council suppliers.
- You will have use of a van during work hours, for which you will need to pass a Council driving test.
- You will attend all designated training courses and tool box talks as directed by the Building Services Engineer to ensure you maintain your existing and develop new skills. You will be required to undertake training on the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment as necessary.
- You will be responsible for participating in the delivery of the M&E department’s Service Level Agreements and associated objectives, attending appropriate meetings as required.
- You will, at designated times, be responsible for providing on-call out-of-hours support for the sites within your remit. This responsibility will be shared with other members of the M&E team on a rota basis. If necessary, you must be able to attend site within one hour of receiving a call.
- You will undertake any other duties commensurate to the grade of the post or as directed by the M&E Manager.
This will be a 6 month fixed term opportunity with the potential of it turning into to a permanent role.
