Role Overview
We are looking for passionate Environmental Engineer/Analyst /Consultant to join our growing Masterplanning and sustainability team. We are looking for someone with skills in environmental modelling to inform strategic design decisions on our masterplanning projects. The principal area of work will be use of early-stage parametric modelling tools to assess major regeneration schemes to ensure that they meet internal and external comfort, daylight and sunlight and wind criteria. The candidate will have experience in using Rhino and Grasshopper, alongside other digital analysis tools to inform better design decision making. A wider interest in tool building and modelling to support an evidenced base for environmental design is also welcome.
The role will include:
Early-stage modelling on masterplan projects to explore how massing impacts on microclimate criteria
Developing our digital tools to further enhance our capability in evidence-based decision making for enhanced sustainability outcomes
Preparing the evidence case to support critical decisions
Engaging with design teams and presenting to clients to build support for preferred approaches.
Preparing policy compliant statements in support of planning applications including for the GLA and EIA assessments
Professional Qualifications and Core Knowledge
Bachelor's or Masters degree in environmental design / engineering, architecture, sustainability, engineering or related discipline
Digital modelling skills including parametric modelling (Rhino, Grasshopper, Ladybug tools and Python)
Wider understanding of using other applications such as GIS and building simulation tools such as PHPP and IES
Knowledge and experience of policy (particularly GLA requirements) and environmental design criteria and strategies for achieving them
Consultancy Skills
Preferably from a built-environment related background (architecture, urban design, environmental engineer), policy, environmental science, geography
Strong analytical and research skills and associated analytical tools
Delivery of high-quality outcomes including reports and presentations
Excellent graphical skills
Good design sensibility, as well as knowledge in reading plans and maps.
Interest in microclimate analysis (daylight, sunlight, overshadowing, overheating, urban heat island, wind)
Knowledge of QGIS (desirable)
Exceptional communication skills verbal and written as well as ability to synthesize information in a clear way
Experience in understanding opportunities in relation to net zero and climate resilience
Thoughtful approach to their work and embracing creative approaches to delivery
