An opportunity has arisen in the busy Finance team of this £200m turnover business for a Financial Accounting Manager (Interim) on a 12-month fixed term contract basis for maternity cover. The role will be primarily based at our serviced offices in SE1, located between Blackfriars Bridge and South Bank, with flexibility for home working.
The main purpose of the Financial Accounting Manager role is to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial information for management accounting and statutory reporting purposes, including balance sheet and cashflow, maintaining compliance with external regulatory requirements. It is a varied and broad role, reporting to the Group Financial Controller and supported by a Financial Accountant.
Synnovis Group and its subsidiaries operate as independent business units within SYNLAB UK & Ireland, which is part of SYNLAB’s Northern Europe Region. Synnovis accounts for 2/3rds of the UK turnover and employs around 1,900 people in and around the London area, within laboratories or supporting them in some way. The Finance department supports the business with financial control, business partnering and commercial teams.
Main duties of the job
The role is broad and varied and allows for considerable exposure to several important finance processes:
Produce the Annual Financial Statements.
Lead the external audit process liaising with the external auditors and providing all necessary data files upon request (interim audit [November], Group audit [January], UK statutory audit [May/June] and half year [July]).
Ensure the Companies House statutory filing deadline (30th Sept) is met.
Support the delivery of month end:
Review and approval of journals.
Produce monthly balance sheet & cashflow analysis and prepare presentation slides.
Input into Group consolidation tool.
Some SAP administration to ensure periods are closed and mandatory transactions are run, in line with agreed timetable.
Supported by shared service centre R2R team in India.
Take responsibility for balance sheet integrity, ensuring that regular reconciliations are done, and balances are understood.
IFRS 16 lead, working with Procurement to ensure lease register is up-to-date, accounting entries are compliant and IFRS 16 SAP module is reconciled to SAP General Ledger.
Periodic cashflow forecasting/budgeting.
Treasury management – daily bank reconciliations and bank balance monitoring.
Review or approve and load weekly BACs & other AP runs and initiate / approve ad hoc priority payments.
Tax administration, supported by the SYNLAB UK Head of Tax:
Oversee the annual LLP tax return submissions – providing supporting calculations and documents.
Prepare or review quarterly VAT returns (SOP exists).
Manage the research and development (RDEC) tax credit claim (led by external consultants, and well-supported by the Finance Business Partnering team.
Payroll-related activity (shared with Group Financial Controller):
Review and approve payroll files.
Review and sample check employee expense claims.
Load payroll data to general ledger.
Providing technical accounting advice to wider team, keeping abreast of changing accounting standards.
Line manage Financial Accountant (QBE).

Qualifications
Essential criteria
Qualifed chartered accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or equivalent).
Experience
Essential criteria
An audit background is a distinct advantage.
Desirable criteria
SAP experience.
Healthcare sector experience.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
Strong technical accounting knowledge including IFRS.
Desirable criteria
Good understanding of IFRS 16 Leases standard.
