About the Role
Whatever your experience of street homelessness and its impact on people’s lives – personal or professional – when you join the Thames Reach team as a First Contact Worker we will make the best use of all your understanding, compassion and commitment. Thames Reach runs projects and services that help to end homelessness in and around London. We work directly with homeless people on the streets and in hostels, prevent vulnerable people from becoming homeless, and help formerly homeless people get their lives back on track. We also support people to find work and access training and volunteering opportunities.
Thames Reach’s hostels are transitional spaces where a 24-hour staff team support people to move in, assess their needs, and quickly identify the best place for them to move on to next. Skilled staff teams develop personalised support plans to ensure people are ready to move on and are accessing support with their health, substance misuse, criminal justice and life skills needs.
As a First Contact Worker you will be responsible for managing the security of the building, arranging repairs and ensuring maintenance works are logged and coordinated, being the first contact with visitors and residents, updating administrative files, organising stock, and providing vital support to staff working directly with clients.
Please note that applications assisted by Artificial Intelligence (AI) for competency questions will not be accepted.
Experience
Good communication skills including face to face, written and phone. Proficiency in IT including Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience in keeping clear and concise records is essential. Flexibility to work across two projects.
About you
You are compassionate, understanding, and committed to supporting people affected by homelessness. You are organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks including security, maintenance coordination, and administrative duties. You work well in a team and are adaptable to changing needs.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are stated as mandatory for this role, but relevant experience and skills as outlined above are required.
