Description
We are looking for a passionate operational manager for Origin Coffee's south of the river location in Southwark. As General Manager, you will have a strong background in speciality coffee and proven operational experience in hospitality. You will lead in amplifying the benchmark for speciality coffee aficionados in Southwark, London by raising Origin Coffee's presence and maintaining our brand's philosophy.
You will lead and develop a team of baristas, ensuring impeccable customer service, whilst implementing operational adjustments for profitability and brand success. Supported by our Head of Retail, directors, and functional leads, including creative direction, strategy, and ambition, your main areas of focus will be:

Baristas - all locations and at various levels of training and development.
In addition, we have over 110 employees and many of the Origin Coffee team work from various locations, depending on their roles and general working locations. Southwark is a frequent 'working from' location primarily for our wholesale, brand and marketing teams.
Key areas of responsibility for the success and smooth day-to-day running of the Southwark location, include:
Brand and marketing
Responsible for maintaining the retail displays and store designs so the customer has the best experience of the Origin brand.
Ensure all retail displays and store designs are maintained and in line with brand guidelines.
Lead and support all events, and functions in liaison with our Events Manager.
Communication
Establish and maintain effective communication channels with key departments and to ensure operational efficiencies
Cascade all necessary information to key members of your team so they feel suitably
Financials
Lead the site to meet and/or exceed financial obligations and profitability through overseeing and actively participating in sales, labour productivity, cost control, and effective purchasing.
Manage and analyse financial KPIs including wages to sales, P&L average transaction values and oversee cogs and cash flow.
Build on existing customer loyalty and streamlining revenue.
Education and Training
Work with our Head of Retail and Head of Education to deliver exceptional education and training. All touch points aspire to provide an experience 'in pursuit of coffee excellence' including our own baristas' career journeys, our retail shop customers, home enthusiast courses and event attendees ensuring Origin provides a seamless education experience at every opportunity.
Health and Safety
Maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment including health & safety, risk management and assessment including food safety compliance (TRAIL).
Health and safety compliance including food hygiene.
Team training including HACCP, First Aid, and SCA Coffee Diploma (delivered by Origin).
Operations
Implementing, monitoring, adhering to, updating, and enforcing compliance with all Origin Coffee and company policies to ensure a consistent and compliant operation.
Implementing and updating Origin Coffee's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on the needs and limitations of the business, proposing new strategies as necessary.
Managing supplier relationships, both existing and new, to ensure the best value in terms of price, delivery, and business terms. This includes working with suppliers to achieve the desired Gross Profit percentage (GP%) and cost of sales Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Monitoring and controlling stock inventory to reduce wastage and contribute to GP% and cost of sales KPIs.
Managing customer service and front-of-house operations to maintain continuity of service and uphold impeccable standards.
Collaborating with your team of baristas to select a range of coffees, including mainstays, single origins, and featured varieties, to ensure the café consistently brews exceptional coffee that matches the best offerings in the UK and Europe.
Demonstrating expertise in brewing exceptional coffee, including espresso, pour-over, and latte art techniques.
Displaying meticulous attention to detail and a dedication to consistency in a demanding, high-standard environment.
Organizing and maintaining deep clean rotations to ensure a clean and hygienic café environment.
These responsibilities are essential for maintaining a successful café operation that delivers high-quality coffee and exceptional customer experiences.

Essential qualities to have
Proven experience in a senior retail management role, preferably within the speciality coffee, food and beverage or hospitality industry.
Proven experience of implementing excellent bar flow, including continuous people and process development.
Proven experience in supporting events in the hospitality industry.
Successful track record of opening and managing multiple retail locations, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage budgets, and meet deadlines.
Excellent leadership and team-building abilities, with a passion for coaching and developing staff. Strategic thinker with the ability to analyse market trends, identify opportunities, and make informed business decisions.
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage with internal teams, external partners, and the local community.
Understanding of the speciality coffee industry.
Flexibility to travel and work extended hours as needed to Origin Coffee locations, as well as during a new site opening phase.

Competitive Salary
Up to £35,000 FTE per annum DOE. Salary is negotiable for the candidate with the knowledge and
skills required to fulfil all elements of the role.
Nature of contract and working pattern
Permanent and full-time. Origin supports flexible working options for the right candidate who can meet both the role and the needs of the business.
Holidays
26 days including your birthday off, as well as 8 bank and public holidays (accrued if working).
