About the Team
The Fraud Investigation Service (FIS) is responsible for dealing with cases of serious fraud and bespoke tax avoidance by way of civil and criminal investigations.
These cases are the most ambitious, sophisticated cross tax interventions that HMRC undertakes. Sitting within Customer Compliance Group, FIS consists of approx. 5,000 professionals including a range of specialist skills such as forensic accountancy, cybercrime investigation and insolvency.
In our Offshore, Corporate and Wealthy (OCW) unit we are responsible for investigations into the wealthiest customer segments, blending our technical knowledge with our experience of both criminal and civil investigation to deliver impact against serious fraud. We have approximately 400 people in sites across the UK engaged with our portfolio of high-profile investigations into both individuals and corporate entities.
About our wins
Each year our teams in FIS bring in £billions of additional yield and deliver over 600 convictions. FIS deploys the full range of powers and approaches to protect funding for UK public services, from surveillance and undercover operations to communications interception and cyber ops; investigating the most harmful tax cheats and ensuring nobody is beyond our reach. This plays an important part in building trust in the compliant majority and reinforces the Department`s fair and even-handed approach.
