About the Role
Gateway Housing Association has been supporting communities to thrive since 1926. We are an ambitious London-based housing association with over 3,000 homes in the heart of London's East End, providing social rented homes, shared ownership, and sheltered housing. We are currently delivering an exciting programme to build another 250 homes by 2025 and operate our own in-house maintenance service, Gateway Homeworks. You will be joining the organisation at an exciting time as a key member of a dynamic team focused on delivering excellent landlord services and strengthening community links.
We are seeking an experienced Head of Customer & Building Safety to strategically oversee building safety and compliance across all property asset functions. You will ensure Gateway Housing meets its statutory landlord compliance obligations in areas including gas safety, water safety, asbestos, electrical safety, fire safety, and lift/LOLER requirements.
Your responsibilities will include managing statutory compliance and wider building safety risks, overseeing contractors and delivery partners, leading a team to monitor property compliance across all statutory and non-statutory areas, and promoting a strong building safety culture throughout the organisation. You will champion the C365 compliance system, ensuring accurate data capture and quality monitoring. Additionally, you will lead the implementation of Gateway Housing’s response to the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Act frameworks, delivering all obligations within set timeframes.
This role requires the ability to lead and deliver complex building safety programmes, translating vision into actionable plans within a challenging and dynamic environment.

Experience
- Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety regulations including gas servicing, asbestos management, and fire safety compliance
- In-depth understanding of the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, mechanical and electrical compliance requirements, and other relevant housing regulations
- Proven experience managing building safety/compliance teams and effectively managing risk
- Strong track record in developing and implementing robust compliance policies and procedures aligned with regulatory and organisational goals
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience engaging customers, colleagues, external stakeholders, and enforcing bodies
