Pro rata salary of £25,586 - £27,753 p.a. (FTE £30,630 - £32,931 p.a.) Contract: Permanent Start Date: 1st September 2025 Parklands Primary School is a high achieving school and we aim to enable our pupils to develop as kind, caring individuals. We seek to appoint a professional, motivated and effective individual who can undertake the role of Attendance Officer. This role will help to ensure that every child is receiving a suitable, full-time education by encouraging regular attendance at school. The Attendance Officer is a member of a team of school staff who work together to make sure that particular children achieve their full potential at school by achieving and maintaining excellent attendance. The role involves promoting attendance and punctuality by carrying out daily monitoring, and prompt, rigorous responses to pupil lateness or absence including updating daily registers using SIMS. Contacting parents of absent pupils each day and issue more formal communications, co-ordinate meetings and implement agreed strategies to improve targets. The role also involves assisting with telephone and in person queries from visitors, parents & carers and assisting with key events, such as parents evening as and when required. Main Purposes of the Job To monitor and improve attendance and punctuality across every year group To identify and take actions to decrease the number of pupils with persistent absence across the school To help overcome barriers to learning outside the school in order to ensure consistently good attendance & punctuality and improve the outcomes of vulnerable pupils Main Duties and Responsibilities To monitor, keep statistics, record, report and evaluate the implementation of all plans to improve attendance and punctuality across the school. To develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the families of the school community, particularly those who are difficult to engage and whose children have poor attendance. To maintain regular contact with families/carers, to keep them informed of the child’s needs and progress and to secure positive family support and involvement in regards to attendance and punctuality. Maintain regular 1:1 meetings or small groups with identified families to support improved attendance and punctuality. To monitor attendance and punctuality of pupils within the school, raising any concerns with the Pastoral Manager and Senior Leadership Team, according to school policies and procedures. To work closely with key members of staff to ensure that the needs of the children are met, including contributing to policies and practices that will promote inclusion and engagement. To have full knowledge and appreciation of the range of activities, organisations and individuals that could provide extra support for pupils and recommend referrals, as appropriate. To provide support for pupils’ emotional and social needs by encouraging positive behaviour in line with the schools policies and ethos. To support effective transfer of pupil information on targeted pupils in regards to attendance and punctuality, giving both pupil and families support during transition and transfer, where necessary. To promote the safeguarding of pupils using the agreed procedures for identification, responding to disclosure and reporting to the relevant lead professional. To carry out duties in accordance with health and safety legislations and the school’s policies. To promote inclusion and equality of opportunity for all pupils in accordance with the school policy. To participate in professional networks, share best practice and attend any training, as required. To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time commensurate with the grade of the post. Additional duties Comply with the Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures of the school, and to report any concerns to the appropriate person. Engage in relevant continuous professional development opportunities and performance management/review arrangements. To be responsible for the provision of First Aid (after training) in the event of accident or injury and for the completion of relevant documentation according to school procedure It is essential that applicants have strong organisational and administrative skills with experience of managing records; excellent oral and clear communication skills; a professional manner face to face, over the telephone and email; and a calm and confident demeanour with the ability to show assertion when necessary. Duties also include processing applications for any leave/special absence of children in liaison with the Senior Leadership Team. Regularly meet with EWO to review attendance and punctuality data. To ensure, alongside SLT, that staff complete registers accurately and in a timely way in line with statutory regulations and to ensure that any discrepancies are amended. To ensure attendance / punctuality letters are consistently sent out through collaboration with the EWO. To make/receive ‘phone calls to/from parents regarding absence of pupils. To deal with parent/pupil enquiries efficiently and in a pleasant and courteous manner. To maintain accurate and up to date records of attendance in line with legislation. To carry out full, accurate and up to date administration of letters, files or other documentation for attendance. Assist Pastoral Manager and Home School Support Worker with targeted home visits/meetings and any attendance/punctuality data that may be required to support case work.
