You can read more about our sustainability strategy here - https://www.dssmith.com/sustainability/sustainability-strategy About the role Given the strategic direction of the company and its commitment to very ambitious Carbon & Energy targets, the ISO 50001 Energy Manager is a key role in the newly created Sustainability Delivery team within DS Smith. They will have a strong focus on developing the current ISO 50001 management systems into one group certificate and ensuring it drives energy efficiency. As the successful candidate, you will have responsibility for driving energy efficiency to meet the businesses energy targets, analysing energy data, and reporting on progress to key stakeholders as well as overseeing the delivery of group energy projects. As the ISO 50001 Energy Manager is part of the sustainability delivery team and will initially report to the Group Sustainability Delivery Director. They will be required to work closely with operational teams predominately at site level across the divisions in a structured way to develop solutions, processes, tools and to implement technical & procedural measures to improve both the ISO 50001 management system and drive energy efficiency across the business. You will demonstrate knowledge and experience in developing and implementing ISO 50001 including internal auditing, identify energy at a local /site level using tools such as energy audits as well as identifying solutions to deliver improvement. They will take the lead in delivering best practice for energy efficiency throughout the business. The ISO 50001 & energy manager needs to be comfortable in working remotely as well as a fair amount of travelling to sites across the business including Europe and North America. DS Smith is a matrix organisation, relying on indirect working relationships as much as on formal reporting lines to get things done. This role is all about identifying improvement and delivery in practice and making progress through persuasion, proactivity and a ‘can do’ attitude. Key accountabilies within the role include - Leading divisional and site teams to identify energy reduction improvement opportunities; work with key stakeholders to develop site specific plans & procedures, develop business cases for capital investment proposals and delivery; liaise with suppliers; and to work with project engineers to support and deliver install & commission new equipment and technology. Develop employees in energy reduction techniques in doing so creating a culture for ownership in energy reduction. Develop and provide agreed regular energy reports across the business Lead and deliver on group energy initiative projects. Be the owner and develop the businesses ISO 50001 management system to drive energy efficiency across the business. Develop and deliver on a plan to pull all DS Smith locations in scope to 1 ISO 50001 management system for the business. Develop and lead on internal ISO 50001 audits across the business. Be the business contact with external ISO 50001 certification body and facilitate external ISO 50001 audits. Be a leader and change agent to enable the business to meet its Net Zero goal and SBTi agenda into achievable deliverables for each year. Provide regular updates on progress. About you Strong operational knowledge of ISO 50001 and implementing at multiple locations. Good knowledge energy optimisation in the context of energy intensive manufacturing. Experience working in a team setting and desire to take leadership role within a project team. Experience in leading ISO 50001 energy auditor. Experience in delivering energy reduction projects. Experience in analysing energy data. Able to think creatively and explore & propose new ideas to drive and deliver improvement in energy efficiency with full 360 thinking.
