The role: Our Technical, Production and Costume Department plays a leading part in ensuring our performances are of the highest quality by delivering technical excellence for every performance, rehearsal, and event. We are seeking to appoint an experienced costume maker/cutter to manage the Ladies Costume Workroom. The Workroom Manager, with the Assistant Manager, undertake all the cutting requirements for the Ladies Workroom and oversee the construction of all items produced in the workroom for The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera. The manager will work with designers and costume production managers to create costumes for principal and chorus artists of both companies, delivering costumes within agreed timescale, resources, and budgets. They will also effectively lead a team of experienced permanent and casual costume technicians, ensuring all activities are carried out to the highest standard of safety, efficiency, and quality. What you`ll bring: This role will suit a candidate with a positive leadership style, who has strong relationship management skills and a collaborative approach to working. You will also be able to demonstrate: A substantial record of successful costume cutting in a theatre, dance, film/TV environment, with management experience.Extensive practical making experience and a sympathetic approach to creative concepts, able to interpret and realise them in practical terms.A specialist knowledge of costume fitting and alteration techniques.Extensive knowledge of modern and traditional methods of construction, periodsstyles, and history of costumes.Proven experience of managing teams and projects with tight deadlines.Experience in budgeting, estimating staffing requirements and scheduling.
