Are you an environmental geographer who is enthusiastic to share your knowledge about sustainability and climate change? We are looking to appoint a Lecturer in Environmental Geography to join our team teaching geography, environment & sustainability and climate change programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (maternity cover).
The Lecturer post, based in Birkbeck's School of Social Sciences, will include:
Delivering high-quality teaching on Birkbeck’s BSc Geography and the University of London Worldwide/Birkbeck online MSc Global Environment and Sustainability
Serving as Programme Director for the UoL/Birkebeck online MSc Global Environment and Sustainability and overseeing this partner course
Delivering the following modules:
Global Food Systems and Health (Level 7 online) (convening)
Independent Research Project (Level 7 online) (convening)
Humans and the Environment (Level 4) (supporting)
Future Food Systems and Sustainability (Level 5) (convening)
Supervising student projects (BSc and MSc)
Contributing to the development of the curriculum
Engaging in public outreach linked to your academic specialism.
The ideal candidate for the Lecturer role should have:
A PhD (or equivalent) level in an appropriate specialism or extensive professional practice in a subject related area
Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including experience of distance/online learning
An understanding of different teaching and learning methods
Effective oral and written communication skills as well as good administration skills
A commitment to working with diversity.

Have a strong research record in Environmental Geography
Be an able and organised administrator and have an outgoing relationship to the field and subject area
Have an understanding of Birkbeck, our principles of widening participation in higher education, and working with mature age, part time, and non-traditional learners from a diversity of backgrounds.
Remuneration
£42,365 rising to £58,554 per annum. Birkbeck offers a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and some of the most generous benefits in the HE sector, all while being located right in the heart of Central London.
The salary is on the College's London pay scale which includes a consolidated weighting / allowance, which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area.
Terms and Conditions
