Are you an experienced employment lawyer ready for a new in-house challenge?
As our business grows and we implement our ambitious plan to transform the delivery of diagnostic testing across South East London and beyond, we are looking for an experienced Post Qualified employment lawyer to join our in-house team to lead on all employment related matters.
The is a newly created role for Synnovis, providing the successful candidate the opportunity to really make it their own.
It will also involve providing some additional support on general commercial matters including contract drafting and day-to-day ad hoc advice.
You will be part of the Legal, Risk & Compliance team reporting into the Director of Legal, Risk & Compliance, with excellent exposure to the Synnovis and UK & I leadership teams.
Prior in-house experience would be preferable but is not essential. The role will be hybrid working based in our London office. Part-time working (4 days per week) will be considered.
Main duties of the job
Provide day-to-day ad hoc advice on all employee relations issues
Management of Employment Tribunal Claims (using specialist external support if required)
Development of training materials for the HR team and the wider business to improve understanding of ER issues, drive a culture of HR policy compliance and maximise leverage for the legal team in negotiating settlement agreements and/or defending ET claims
Liaison and support as required with SYNLAB UK & I Legal/HR teams
Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts including pathology testing, asset purchase, equipment leasing/reagent rental, logistics, software development and maintenance agreements, settlement agreements
Provision of day-to-day legal advice across the business on a broad range of matters including contract, employment, data protection, regulatory compliance, procurement law

Primary responsibility for all employment work to include:
Day-to-day ad hoc advice on all employee relations issues

Facilitate and influence negotiations to achieve best legal and commercial outcomes to maximise value and minimise risk
Deputising as Company Secretary for the Group including attending and minuting Board meetings and Board committees, drafting resolutions and Companies House filings
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Solicitor or barrister qualified to practise in England & Wales or equivalent
Degree educated to at least 2:1 standard or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
Post qualified lawyer with demonstrable in-house employment law experience
UK employment law knowledge & experience
Desirable criteria
Staff management experience
Previous experience of working in healthcare or pathology
Skills
Essential criteria
A good knowledge of general commercial contracts law with the ability to quickly identify key issues
Understand when to seek additional specialist advice
Sound commercial judgment
Desirable criteria
Project management skills
Good administrative skills
