About the Team:
The Litigation Team consists of five officers who positively contribute towards the effective recovery of major works, ground rent and service charge debt from both leaseholders and freeholders. Our vision is to make the complexity of litigation more transparent thorough effective communication and always putting our customers at the heart of the decision making process. We want to provide the best customer experience by being honest and reliable. We want to engage with our colleagues to maximise the value that they bring to the organisation, our customers and our community.
About the Role:
Key responsibilities include managing conflicting priorities, attending courts and tribunals as necessary, and applying advanced knowledge of relevant laws and court procedures. The post holder will be responsible for managing individual caseloads, making decisions with significant financial implications for the Council, and advising on policies and practices within the directorate.
The role also involves providing high-level legal advice to the Council on complex matters impacting contracts and relationships within the Homeownership department, including significant issues affecting consultants, contractors, and financial resources. Additionally, the role requires representing the Council's financial interests in disputes, evaluating risk exposure, and ensuring compliance with legislation and policies, with a focus on making recommendations for enhancing Residential Services.
Furthermore, the role entails promoting equality, diversity, and upholding the Council's core values at all times. This commitment extends to engagement with leaseholders, freeholders, related organisations, and the public. Overall, the post holder is expected to apply their expertise and discretion to address diverse and complex problems in accordance with Council policies and procedures, while ensuring the highest standards of service delivery.
