Job overview
In the role of Logistics Lead, you will deliver a comprehensive review of the logistics services from the Global Services Group, focusing first on Synnvois and Pathology First. You will build and deliver the vision for a OneSYNLAB model for logistics across the UK considering true requirements, matching external contractual commitments, resilience to underpin safe pathology services, ESG and cost efficiency.
This will define the future requirement of both logistics and this role. The role will then move into delivery of the vision, streamlining and harmonising provision of logistics across the UK, and ongoing Account Management and auditing of existing suppliers.
The role will also need to support projects as required and act as SME for logistics on UK tenders or new/changed logistic service requirements.

Success in this role will be measured on the following key deliverables:
Plan produced for the management and optimisation of the key logistics supplier to the UK.
Vision defined for Logistics for the UK.
Development of Management information reporting for logistics.
Financial savings achieved and efficiency of service – a framework will need to be developed and targets set.
Strong relationship with respective senior management teams.
Evidence of added value in delivery of business objectives.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
At Synnovis, we are currently shaping the future of pathology services by creating a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network with our NHS partners. A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London. For now, the job you are applying for will be based at one of our hospital sites however, from 1 April 2024 our people and services will start to move to our Hub laboratory in Blackfriars, Southwark, SE1, with some work remaining in refurbished essential services laboratories across our hospital network, focusing on the rapid turnover of urgent tests. Please do ask your recruiting manager if you wish to find out more.
Currently our offices are based in Paris Garden, Blackfriars SE1, or Francis House, Southwark SE1 however at present these are temporary locations. We expect to move to new offices in the Hub building located in Blackfriars in 2024.
Role Responsibilities
Optimise logistics services considering true requirements, matching external contractual commitments, resilience to underpin safe pathology services, ESG and cost efficiency.
Define the vision for logistics and future function to support the UK.
Balance operational service outcomes with the procurement and financial requirements of the logistics services.
Provide support to projects as required.
Act as SME for logistics on UK tender support.
Select the appropriate metrics based on the objective of the logistic service and supplier relationship and develop a scorecard.
Establish and implement governance mechanisms to effectively manage the supplier/s collaboratively, underpinned by data and analytics to measure performance accurately.
Facilitate positive, proactive communication between supplier/s and SYNLAB UK/I business units i.e. meetings, reports, and feedback loops, to exchange information and updates, to develop and maintain relationships.
Ensure adverse events, service failures, are managed without adversely impacting on SYNLAB customer KPI’s and risks to patients are mitigated.
Investigate service failures, agree remediations and appropriate fixes to prevent recurrence.
Conduct audits of suppliers in line with SYNLAB Group Supplier Code of Conduct, agreed supplier terms and conditions and to ensure that any certifications and accreditations remain in force, and the supplier is compliant with industry standards and regulations.
Complete due diligence on potential new suppliers and make recommendations as required.
Undertake quarterly risk assessment of supplier/s and logistic services, in order to develop appropriate risk mitigation plans with the relevant Business Unit and Supplier/s.
Support any informal or formal dispute resolution mechanisms as required.
Investigate complaints made by Business Units against the Supplier or service, and work with the Supplier to agree and implement an appropriate resolution.

Report all incidents and adverse events to managers and assist in the investigations of any incidents.
Participate in risk assessment monitoring.
Ensure that the equipment within area of work is maintained and operated as per SOP’s.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
A degree or equivalent qualification in logistics (or similar supply chain discipline) or equivalent extensive knowledge and understanding gained through significant logistics experience
Desirable criteria
Chartered Fellow or Member of a relevant professional body
MSP, Prince 2 or other recognised programme or project management qualification
Continuous improvement certification e.g., Lean, Six Sigma
Experience
Essential criteria
In depth specialist knowledge and understanding of logistics management practice at the strategic and operational levels, in a variety of sectors
Understanding of a pathology business and the requirements of logistics (both sample management and supply chain)
Desirable criteria
Experience of managing outsourcing and outsourced contracts and transitioning activity to outsource / inhouse
Skills & Knowledge

Possess strong analytical skills
Proven experience in stakeholder and relationship management
