The Team York St John, London is seeking to recruit a talented, proactive, flexible and motivated individual to join the rapidly expanding team as one of the London Student Support & Guidance Coordinators. The purpose of this relatively new role is to deliver academic and pastoral support to our London students. The role will contribute significantly to facilitating the development of high-quality support provision for students that will enhance the integration of international students into UK university life and the overall student experience. The Role There are three main aspects to this role, the first being the delivery of a successful Academic Skills Programme, with particular focus on Academic Integrity and English as an Academic Language, which supports international students in adapting to the demands of successful study in a well-established UK university. This programme will cover topics such as UK academic regulations, referencing conventions and avoiding plagiarism, reading and academic writing skills, presenting with confidence and time integrity. The Student Support & Guidance Coordinator will contribute to: the development of content for this programme, delivery of content in-person and online, monitoring engagement and strategically gathering student feedback on the programme to inform future planning. The second main aspect of this role is to be a main point of contact for Wellbeing and Welfare support and guidance for students at the London Campus. This will include recognising and responding to the support needs of students in distress, using relevant systems to log and report case notes and, in line with relevant policies, signposting/referring to internal Wellbeing/Welfare services in York as well as to external local provision e.g. multi-faith spiritual advisors and/or counselling services. The third main aspect of this role is to contribute to the efficient delivery of the Academic Tutoring Programme. This involves ensuring that all students have an academic tutor and that all academic tutors are trained in the skills necessary to provide tutoring to students; this may require the post holder to support tutors in this provision throughout the academic year. This post holder will be expected to communicate and collaborate effectively across wider student support teams including Employability, Registry and Library Services as well as other Professional Services teams in both London and York.
