About the job Responsible for the disposal of ALL waste through the appropriate waste streams to minimise costs and maximise revenue from recycling activities whilst maintaining compliance with current environmental legislation. You will adhere to depot protection, safety, quality and environmental procedures, rules and regulations in force. Your main responsibilities will be: Ensure compliance with ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System. Sort ALL waste arising from on board train cleaning activities, the inspection shed and offices. Record dispatched weights and quoted prices. Ensure all waste transfer and pre-notification paperwork is raised or received for EACH load dispatched. Segregate hazardous waste from non-hazardous waste. Segregate recyclable materials. Dispose of bio-waste and sharps in accordance with local instructions. Ensure all waste is stored/handled correctly. Report and clean up all spillages of oil / chemical in accordance with local instructions. Report any environmental incidents to Heavy Works Manager / supervisor. You will examine all environmental procedures, notices, publications and instructions. You'll need to: Ensure you personal safety and that of others at all times. Comply with all safety systems and responsibilities at all times. Develop a pro-active approach to safety issues. Report any accidents, assaults or near miss occurrences in accordance with local reporting procedures. Report any safety irregularities, faults or unusual occurrences in the prescribed manner. Ensure all relevant PPE for tasks/activities is worn at all times and in accordance with local safety instructions / risk assessments. Participate in all staff briefings to ensure you are informed of all relevant information. You will examine all safety procedures, notices, publications and instructions. As a minimum, you will need to have: Good communication skills Great ability to work as part of a team Strong attention to detail Ability to follow instructions Applicants who require a visa must have 6 months remaining at the time of their appointment. Training is full time and you must be able to commit to this. Working pattern You will work an average of 37 hours per week, typically: 0600 - 1400 Monday to Friday.
