About the role:
We have an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Technician to join our Maintenance team at our Beckton Sewage Treatment Works (STW). As the successful candidate, your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our waste treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. To assist in keeping such a site running.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical Technician
- Investigate plant failures and perform repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
- You will be expected to provide technical advice, refer to up-to-date technical knowledge, and provide training or support for technical trainees if required.
- Examples of equipment that you will be working on include motors, gearboxes, screw /chain conveyors & centrifuges, various pumps, and associated control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, automatic valves, flow, level and pressure measurement, programmable, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
- Completing statutory checks as required.
- Always working safely and complying with all Health and Safety guidance and procedures.
Base Location: Beckton STW
Working Pattern 38 Hours Monday- Friday 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby & overtime opportunity increasing earnings by a potential £8,000 - £10,000. upon completion of essential company training
All PPE and tools are provided.
What you should bring to the role
- ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering qualification in Mechanical Engineering is crucial.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are crucial.
- The work will require physical fitness, as you will work in confined spaces with the successful completion of the appropriate training.
- A valid driving licence is essential, and all necessary equipment, such as the vehicle and tools, are provided.

- To be a self-motivated individual who can immerse oneself into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined, have the desire to learn from those around you and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times, but very rewarding, too.
- Take Ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with the team.
- Teamwork – We are one team, and our end goals are the same.
- Proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively.
- Must be prepared to be trained in safety procedures.
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards.

- Competitive salary up to £ 37,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
- Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase this earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.
- 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 days with the length of service. (Plus bank holidays)
- Contributory pension – Defined Contribution - Maximum of 12% -2x employee contribution.
