The histology department is looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated Medical Laboratory Assistants to join the Synnovis Histology team at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital. The ideal candidate will be a quick learner, good team player and keen to develop their scientific knowledge, administrative and people skills through interaction with patients and fellow staff whilst rotating across the sections of the laboratory and offices. This laboratory-based role will give you the job satisfaction that comes from knowing that no two days are the same. You will be assisting a group of scientists who are experts in histological techniques. Main duties of the job This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the major hospitals in London. The successful candidate will be expected to perform general scientific and technical duties including sample reception and preparation. The staff duties are planned on a rotational basis ensuring that Medical Laboratory Assistants are exposed to a variety of tasks including specimen reception, assisting in specimen dissection, specimen and block archiving. Working for our organisation The department is situated in a major teaching hospital, and cancer referral centre. Processing over 32, 000 surgical cases per year, the Histology department is currently in a dynamic state of growth with more clinics set to be established resulting in more surgical samples. The Histopathology department also supports the mortuary with its post-mortem work, cytopathology and mega blocks for cancer resection. A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London.
