This role is based at the Princess Royal University Hospital and the south sites (Beckenham Beacon & Orpington). You will be require to work in a multitude of locations ranging from Outpatients, In-patient wards, Clinics (including a variety of geographic locations).

To be considered for this role, candidates should possess excellent customer service skills, a minimum of 2 years practicing as a phlebotomist. Complaints handling and a good understanding and knowledge of Quality & Health and Safety policies and procedures would be an advantage. Do you have exceptional IT skills and experience working within a leadership or supervisory role as these attributes would be highly beneficial. You must have excellent spoken and written English, be numerate and have first class dexterity skills.
Please note: You will be required to work a flexible shift pattern between 06:00am and 20:00 pm Monday – Sunday and Bank Holidays

Main duties of the job
To send completed blood samples to the laboratory using the appropriate resources i.e. pod system / porter or self-delivery if necessary.
To assist the Phlebotomy Team Managers when ordering stock consumables and raise any concerns or suggestions surrounding stock levels
To actively pursue good professional working relations with all staff groups on the wards and outpatient clinics.
d. Accurate data entry of confidential student information onto the Trust computer system, requiring frequent, long periods of concentration.
Assist with Phlebotomy record keeping to ensure compliance with good work practices required for the compliance of Synnovis/Trust Service Level Agreements.
Escalate complex queries to senior staff members as appropriate and distribution of reports to senior managers.
Ensure the smooth running of the Phlebotomy training theory and Induction days and take an active role in the theory presentation.
Take an active role in Induction days and Prepare Phlebotomy information packs, advice service users on Phlebotomy training and booking process as and when needed
j Complete ID checks for DBS clearance purposes and subsequently approve online applications as and when needed
k. To keep appropriate records of patient activity by collecting and collating workload statistics, to ensure compliance with good work practices, and feedback to team managers using the OPMS system.
L On-Call, to manage weekend phlebotomy service across KCH sites, and work on the wards if you are unable to find cover at weekends.
m. Travel to other KCH sites as and when needed

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To oversee and lead the department from the front and ensure that it runs as effectively as possible on a daily basis. Be the first professional point of contact for both patients and staff. To collect blood samples from inpatients, outpatients and patients referred to the hospital by General Practitioners, consultant within all our sites and to collate data for quality assurance purposes. You will be required to work alongside other Team Managers and Team leaders across all sites.
You will be required to work alongside other Team Managers and Team leaders within the department. The role will also require you to work with medical/nursing staff and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
You will be required to undertake a range of protocol driven tasks, working to tight targets and deadlines. These tasks will include being required to handle clinical specimens, accurately record data for quality assurance monitoring procedures, as well as other administrative and supervisory duties.
Concentration and attention to detail are essential to this role. The post holder will offer a helpful and professional service to all visitors and telephone callers and will assist in the provision of a high quality service.
You will be supervising a team of phlebotomists and in addition to this you will be monitoring and improving training compliance for the site.
Clinical
To adhere to the protocols for the accurate and positive confirmation of the identity of patients prior to drawing blood samples.
b. To obtain venous and capillary blood samples from patients.
c. To adhere to the protocols for the accurate and positive labelling of blood samples immediately following the collection of the specimen from the patient.
d. To maintain adequate stocks of sample containers, syringes and needles at workstations.
e. To actively pursue good professional working relations with all staff groups on the wards and outpatient clinics.
f. To be polite and sensitive to the needs of patients, their families and hospital staff.
g. To act as first point of contact for staff and patients.
h. Ensure the smooth running of the Phlebotomy training theory and Induction days and take an active role in the theory presentation.
i. Take an active role in Induction days and Prepare Phlebotomy information packs.
j. To keep appropriate records of patient activity by collecting and collating workload statistics, to ensure compliance with good work practices, and feedback to team managers using the OPMS system.
k. To assist the Phlebotomy Team Manager when ordering stock consumables and raise any concerns or suggestions surrounding stock levels.
l. To report to the Phlebotomy Team Manager any instance or event which may cause a service delivery failure.
