About the Role
Spelthorne Borough Council is offering a fantastic opportunity for a talented planner to join our Strategic Planning Team as a Planning Policy Technician. With the adoption of our new Local Plan anticipated this autumn, this role will be part of a team helping to shape the future of Spelthorne Borough.

This is a core position at the heart of the strategic planning and economic development teams. You will play a key role in assisting with the preparation of the Council’s Local Plan, other planning policy documents, and strategic planning work. Your responsibilities will include reporting on the regular monitoring of policies and development in the Borough, conducting research and surveys, and supporting team projects and events such as public consultations by preparing documents, plans, displays, and background information.

Additional duties include assisting with the general administration of the Strategic Planning and Enterprise team’s work, including payments, invoicing, and maintaining records. You will also help maintain the team web pages and keep records for Economic Development. The role involves regular site visits across the borough to monitor development.

This position supports both office and home working in line with the Council’s hybrid working policy, requiring attendance at the office on a rota basis and as service needs dictate.

Requirements

Experience
Administrative experience is essential. Experience in planning or local government settings would be advantageous but is not mandatory.

About you
You will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual with good diplomacy and interpersonal skills. You must be able to work effectively as part of a team and take direction. Strong writing, organisational, and analytical skills are required, along with the ability to think creatively. Flexibility and the ability to balance workload priorities are important. The role requires regular site visits, so a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use are essential.

Qualifications
There are no specific qualification requirements stated for this role, but a positive attitude and willingness to learn are important. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for effective job performance.
