We are looking for up to 18 individuals to join our highly skilled policy teams across HMRC to help deliver their goals. This is an exciting opportunity to join a cohort of people working towards a longer-term career within policy. Prior experience in policy, tax or the Civil Service is not required, and this opportunity is ideal for those looking to start a career in the Civil Service or those who are considering a career change into policy. Over an 18-month period, you will gain an understanding of the different policy work undertaken across HMRC and develop the relevant technical and policy skills and knowledge required to work within the Policy Profession. There are many exciting opportunities within HMRC across a diverse range of policy development and implementation. Our teams are involved in the entire lifecycle of policy from design and customer insight, through to legislation and implementation and ultimately maintenance and continuous improvement.The role will include a Level 4 Policy Officer Apprenticeship and we will provide you with a structured pathway of learning to develop policy skills and knowledge, which will further develop and consolidate your learning alongside a rewarding role. With our ongoing investment, your dedication and application of these skills, we expect you to be ready to apply for roles at the next grade by the end of this period. Many of our policy apprentices on completion of their apprenticeship have gained promotion. The role of an apprentice.As an apprentice, you will be working with a wide range of stakeholders and experts to gather evidence and to synthesise information and present recommendations to senior leaders.?? The Policy Officer apprenticeship programme is intended for candidates new to policy roles allowing them to build the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a policy professional. You will join HMRC on a permanent contract at Executive Officer (EO) Grade, typically working as either a Policy Officer or Policy Adviser within a policy team.The policy apprentices will undertake a Level 4 Policy Officer apprenticeship alongside their role which is externally accredited and managed by JGA. The programme lasts for 18 months of which you will spend 80% of your time learning in your role, and 20% alternative learning for example, 1-2-1 tutorials with your learning coach, researching & preparing assignments, and work shadowing.You will not be expected to study outside working hours, as you will have 20% of your working time dedicated to your studies. During your apprenticeship you will be expected to complete assessments such as written assignments and presentations. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will have gained transferable skills and a qualification that will prepare you for your career in policy. You will be fully supported throughout your policy apprentice programme by the apprenticeship learning provider JGA, your Line Manager and the Policy Apprenticeship Team, which sits within the wider Policy Professionalism Team. Please note your role and department will be allocated to you. Your tasks may include;Supporting policy professionals in conducting research and analysis to inform policy development.Presenting recommendations to a wide range of stakeholders.Preparing and drafting information for senior colleagues.Assisting your team during the introduction of new legislation.Successful candidates will be expected to take up duty on Monday 1st April 2024.If you are interested in learning more about the role, the apprenticeship programme, and the work we do, we are holding Policy Drop-in sessions on Wednesday 30th August at 11am and Tuesday 5th September at 2pm.
