The Role We’re looking for an individual with knowledge and experience in the transport of dangerous goods to join our dangerous goods policy team. The Policy Specialist - Dangerous Goods position is part of the Dangerous Goods and Ground Handling team in Flight Operations and an essential part of the UK’s strategic aim as a specialist aviation regulator, to influence International and European policy to advance aviation safety on behalf of the nation. Your dangerous goods and aviation knowledge, skills and experience will contribute significantly to the safe carriage of goods by air within the UK and has the opportunity to improve safety on a truly global scale. You will be developing and providing regulatory and policy guidance to internal and external stakeholders by: Working with the Dangerous Goods Inspectors, the UAS and Innovation teams providing guidance and support and developing regulatory frameworks. Collaborating with the DfT, BEIS and other Regulatory agencies such as the ONR, Border Force and VCA Participating in various forums, such as the Dangerous Goods European Liaison Group (DGELG), Universal Postal Union and with ICAO on the Dangerous Goods Panel and its associated working groups. Initiating, supporting and/or contributing to the policy reviews, production of guidance documents and development on dangerous goods. About You Minimum essential requirements for the role: You will have specialist subject matter knowledge and experience in Dangerous Goods. You will be able to work independently using your own initiative, whilst also being a team worker with the ability to participate in multi-discipline teams within the UK, and multi-national teams in the international arena. This role requires exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in clear and concise terms at all levels both internally and externally. Building strong relationships with peers and colleagues is a vital element of the role. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. A flexible can-do approach is required whilst also retaining the ability to stand firm when necessary. You will need to have excellent prioritisation skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities. Desirable skills for the role: You will have significant knowledge and experience of relevant UK, European and global legislation (e.g. ANO, ICAO, EASA Regulations) including in-depth knowledge of the ICAO Technical Instructions. You will have a keen eye for detail and be able to absorb and understand significant volumes of information, when required, to determine an appropriate and proportionate policy.
