DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Commercial Affairs is responsible for the financial, legal and business aspects of programme making and is tasked with negotiating all contractual, financial and other deal terms between Channel 4 and programme suppliers, in particular independent companies who make programmes on Channel 4’s behalf. The commissioning teams are supported by Legal and Business Affairs Managers and Production Finance Managers who work with commissioning editors to agree the editorial, financial and contractual details of each project, and to manage the business issues arising.
JOB PURPOSE
The Production Finance Coordinator plays a crucial role in looking after all development and certain designated production projects (television and/or online) across Non-Scripted genres. Providing support to one or more Production Finance Managers (PFMs), this role is responsible for liaising with the production companies and ensuring all such projects are processed through the Business Approval Board (BAB) and Local Programme Finance Committee (LPFC) process efficiently.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Negotiate all development deals and production projects as designated;
Prepare and submit paperwork to BAB/LPFC for those projects;
Monitor the projects through to completion and update abandonments/final costs;
Maintain status report for all projects which fall within the remit of the PFMs which you are working with from project form through to contract
signature;
Pass invoices through Basware to relevant PFM;
Undertake first review of month end reports for cash and creditors from the cash system, clearing negatives and anomalies as far as possible prior
to discussion with the relevant PFM;
Maintain and review order reconciliations for the developments in each genre area working with other co-ordinators on the team as necessary;
Have a full understanding of the C4 production insurance requirements and deal with queries as required;
Ensure that the genre routines with the commissioning departments happen regularly and attend those routines;
Ensure that all essential information is electronically filed and easily accessible across the Production Finance team;
Regular review of spend to date for the genre areas;
Provide cover for the PFM(s) in periods of holiday/sickness.;
Review other genre reports (e.g regionality/DUK) from time to time as requested by the manager;
Other ad hoc duties as requested.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Experience of working in various aspects of production on UK terrestrial broadcast programmes within a production management team as a production secretary/ coordinator or equivalent role.
Able to demonstrate an understanding of production budgets and schedules in relation to the editorial requirements
Effective negotiation skills
Ability to assimilate information quickly and resolve issues but also able to assess when these should be discussed further with relevant stakeholders
Highly diligent, organised and self-motivated
Ability to deliver under pressure
Strong communication skills
Strong team player and able to collaborate with people at all levels
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
A working understanding of the Channel 4 terms of trade
Salary
Basic salary from £33,469 dependent on experience
