Are you dynamic, collaborative and passionate about improving the air that children breathe? Do you inspire change and manage excellent programmes to achieve demonstrable results? Can you deliver engaging content to motivate change in a school setting? Would you like to be part of a high-performance team helping to manage the development and implementation of innovative, impactful air pollution programmes in schools? If so, Global Action Plan is looking for a Programme Manager for our clean air for schools projects, with the adaptability to work across wider clean air projects. Our programme of work to ensure children can breathe clean air informs and influences policymakers, provides hands-on support to heads and teachers to clean up the air for their students, and amplifies the voices of children who campaign for adults to do more to protect their health. In 2024 we are expanding our clean air schools work, to also include projects working in partnership with schools in Europe that are impacted by air pollution. We are looking for an experienced and inspirational programme manager to lead and expand our clean air engagement projects with schools This is one of the most exciting roles in the field of air quality – a chance to make a real difference to the health and educational outcomes of children across the country by tackling air pollution. There may also be opportunities to support project work outside of our school programmes depending on availability. We are looking for a passionate sustainability professional with extensive experience in leading multiple concurrent programmes that improve the environment and people’s health. Experience of teaching or leading youth projects is required. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual who can lead in the following three areas: Programme management and development Design and deliver excellent programmes with maximum impact on time and to budget. Manage budget, work plans and team meetings to ensure all members working on the project and partners are delivering against agreed outputs and timelines. Coordinate the delivery of clean air schools action projects involving multiple GAP staff and external stakeholders to ensure high standard and timely delivery. Stakeholder engagement Establish and maintain great relationships with schools, public, private and charity sector delivery partners with high satisfaction of all partners involved. Maintain great relationships with funders and deliver programme impact reporting. Strategy and content oversight of clean air education & youth programmes Design clean air engagement strategies and content for schools, including engaging curriculum-linked content and activities. Keeping up to date with the education sector landscape, to make sure our programmes meet the changing needs of the education system and importantly the needs of teachers. Key skills and experience We are keen to hear from applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experience, and particularly those who are currently underrepresented in the environmental sector and those most affected by the issues we focus on. We also encourage applicants who can bring excellent transferrable experience but don’t necessarily meet every aspect of the skills and experience listed below. The successful candidate will: Excellent programme management skills, including financial planning, time management, collaborative working, risk management and an eye for detail to achieve impact, high standards and client satisfaction. Proven programme design skills, to be able to drive the development and delivery of programmes and think creatively about opportunities from a user perspective. Great relationship management skills, with an ability to build, grow and maintain rapport with clients, delivery partners and external stakeholders. Demonstrable written and oral communication skills, to communicate with a range of stakeholders to act on air pollution through a range of medium (e.g. workshops, reports, websites). Sustainability or health related programme experience in education, preferably with some knowledge about the health impacts and solutions to air pollution.
