Job overview
This is an exciting time to join the Synnovis team. Synnovis formed a new pathology partnership with Guy’s and St Thomas,’ and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts to deliver and transform NHS pathology services across South East London on 1 April 2021. The partnership provides diagnostics, testing and digital pathology services for hospitals, GPs, and other NHS healthcare providers, as well as for other consumers across the UK.
We are looking for an experienced Programme Manager to join an established team in a fast paced and exciting organisation. You will be collaborating with multiple stakeholders across the organisation and with senior colleagues to support the delivery of complex programmes with critical delivery timeframes. The role requires confident, competent and experienced project professionals who are available immediately to join the team.
The role will require you to hit the ground running and be able to multitask, work under pressure and to tight timelines, be a self-starter using your initiative and best practice processes. The prospective candidate will have a flexible and adaptable approach, with excellent organisational and communication skills, including liaising with Senior Stakeholders. You will have the ability to deliver and maintain standards in response to changing priorities and be calm under pressure accommodating changes as required. You will be comfortable in developing and maintaining a suite of project documents, supporting meetings, and working well with a broad range of colleagues. You will thrive in a busy team environment and quickly assimilate the role requirements and implementing them.
The Programme Manager is expected to add value by acting as a driving force and having direct impact on the efficiency and overall success of the programme. This role requires excellent communication, organisation skills, logical thinking and problem solving.
We are currently operating as a hybrid working model with a mix of remote and site-based working depending on the needs of the individual projects and programme.

Main duties of the job
Manage the timely delivery of complex change projects/programmes with multiple interdependent workstreams in accordance with the Synnovis project methodology.
Develop and maintain high quality project management documentation including detailed plans, risk and issues logs, benefits plans, appraisal papers and other project tools required to work effectively and deliver project objectives.
Identify and capture issues and risks proactively, including clinical risks, and ensure timely resolution and escalation where appropriate.
Report progress regularly to Project Boards in a concise and relevant way – escalating risks and issues where appropriate.
Proactively manage project budgets, providing accurate forecasting for project costs to ensure project is delivered to budget.
Work with PMO to ensure accurate resource forecasting is being used to allocate resource across the portfolio.
Working for our organisation
From 1 April 2021, Synnovis became responsible for the day-to-day delivery of pathology services, which are at the core of the new partnership. Colleagues across SYNLAB, Synnovis and the NHS are working together to achieve the shared vision of developing an integrated, world-leading hub-and-spoke pathology network. The Service transformation is to be completed by 2024 and will see us build on the strengths and good practice within today’s Synnovis service.
The new partnership will improve ways of working for clinicians and scientists and will also deliver better value for money for the NHS.
As well as delivering pathology services and in line with the NHS’s own clinical vision and strategy, we will transform existing hospital-based laboratory and diagnostic services into an integrated hub and spoke pathology network.
Our state-of-the-art ‘hub’ laboratory will be at Friars Bridge Court, in Blackfriars Road, London, providing access to improved services and equipment for routine and specialist testing. On-site hospital laboratories will be essential services laboratories (the spokes), focusing on the rapid turnaround of urgent tests, such as those needed for A&E departments.

Duties and responsibilities

Ensure the project is on track to deliver to the agreed timescales/deadline.
Engage senior stakeholders across the organisation to ensure they are part of successful project delivery.
Develop and maintain high quality project management documentation including detailed plans, risk and issues logs, benefits plans, appraisal papers and other project tools required to work effectively and deliver project objectives.
Identify and capture issues and risks proactively, including clinical risks, and ensure timely resolution and escalation where appropriate.
Ensure that all relevant change control procedures (project, IT, operational) are adhered to during programme delivery.
Report progress regularly to Programme and Portfolio Boards in a concise and relevant way – escalating risks and issues where appropriate.
Proactively manage programme budgets, providing accurate forecasting for project costs to ensure projects are delivered to budget.
Work with PMO to ensure accurate resource forecasting is being used to allocate resource across the portfolio.
Contribute to the ongoing development of the programme and project standards within Synnovis.

Essential criteria
Qualified to degree level or equivalent
Programme management qualification certified to Practitioner Level or equivalent experience e.g. MSP
Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
Project Management qualification e.g., PRINCE 2 or APM PMQ

Experience of planning and executing programmes of varying size and complexity involving, but not limited to, the areas of Operations and IT
Experience in change management
Experience in maintaining programme management artefacts and ensuring compliance with methodologies such as MSP
Experience of delivering programmes in complex, fast paced and challenging environments
Desirable criteria
Managing programmes with budget of £1m+
Pathology or healthcare programme delivery
Experience of working in the NHS
