Job overview Synnovis Analytics is looking for a Band 8a Infection Sciences Quality Manager to join a team of Quality managers and Quality Officers led by our Senior Pathology Quality Manager in the implementation and maintenance of the Quality Management Systems for the infection sciences department (Microbiology and Virology) at King’s College Hospital, London Denmark Hill site We are looking to recruit on a fixed term basis, a Band 8a Infection Sciences (Microbiology and Virology) Quality Manager to support QMS ISO 15189:2012 maintenance at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill site, whilst working towards transition to 2022 standard requirements. Are you an exceptional pathology Quality Manager, with a broad range of experience managing Quality Management Systems in UK Medical Laboratories, which are ISO15189:2012 accredited? Are you experienced in the planning and delivery of training in quality tools, which meet ISO15189:2012 requirements? Do you thrive working across different specialities, working with a wide range of laboratory teams? The successful applicant will join our ever growing, friendly and interactive team, which delivers an excellent Microbiology and Virology service that has tests accredited to ISO 15189:2012. Main duties of the job The Quality Manager will provide expertise on all aspects of Quality within Infection Sciences department and will develop, lead and manage the quality management system within the laboratory, reporting on the functioning and effectiveness of the system. They will be responsible for promoting and supporting quality improvement. They will liaise with other Quality Managers/Officers and external accreditation bodies to support the quality management system across Synnovis Analytics. Detailed job description and main responsibilities At Synnovis, we are currently shaping the future of pathology services by creating a world-leading Hub and Spoke pathology network with our NHS partners. A large part of this modernisation will involve moving 70% of our services to a purpose built, state of the art Hub laboratory in the heart of London. For now, the job you are applying for will be based at one of our hospital sites however, from 1 April 2024 our people and services will start to move to our Hub laboratory in Blackfriars, Southwark, SE1, with some work remaining in refurbished essential services laboratories across our hospital network, focusing on the rapid turnover of urgent tests. Duties and responsibilities Quality Management To manage and develop the Quality Management Systems in Infection Sciences and to be responsible, along with the Service Delivery Manager for ensuring that the Laboratories meet and maintain all the current accreditation standards and regulation. To be an expert in Quality Management, in order to offer advice on quality issues and to work closely with the Operations Manager, Service Delivery Manager and Pathology Quality Manager to plan service improvements and developments. To provide accurate and timely reports to the Service Delivery Manager and GRQ committee on the functioning and effectiveness of the QMS on matters relating to clinical governance, such as clinical audit and adverse incidents. To be responsible for establishing, improving and operating the system for document control, to ensure all users are suitably trained and familiar with document control procedures, and to ensure full compliance with those procedures. To be responsible for keeping up to date with, and ensuring compliance with current external accreditation standards, legislation, best practice guidelines, the relevant governance and risk management policies, audit guidelines, and any other appropriate documentation relating to Quality Management. Review and maintain the Service Risk Register. Categorise the levels of risk, oversee the plans to remove or reduce risk to manageable levels and to highlight those risks that pose a threat to the service. To be responsible for training and educating all staff in aspects of audit, quality principles and practice, including the preparation for quality inspections, and to participate in other training activities such as staff induction. To have oversight of, and co-ordinate where required, the investigation of complaints, near misses and adverse incidents relating to the services; to ensure action plans are documented & followed through within the required timescale. To ensure that information and preventive measures resulting from complaints and incidents is fed back to relevant personnel and acted on accordingly. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Degree level qualification in Science eg BSc (Hons)Biomedical Science or relevant subject to the post Registration as Biomedical Scientist with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Evidence of Education to MSc level in subject relevant to the post e.g. MSc QMS and Governance Modules Evidence of continuing professional development Desirable criteria Membership at Member Level of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences or Chartered Quality Institute Experience Essential criteria Experience of acting in a managerial / supervisory capacity of a departments Quality Management System (Previous Manager) Experience in planning, delivery of training in quality tools e.g. audit, root cause analysis, validation and verifications, change controls in etc in line with ISO 15189:2012 requirements Desirable criteria Managed or being involved with external inspections (ISO 15189) Skills & Knowledge Essential criteria Ability to show evidence of leading and management of a robust QMS (involvement in QMS activities) Ability to demonstrate a high level of oral and writing skills Ability to think logically and use initiative Ability to present complex information to a general audience Applications are welcomed from applicants with a disability.
