Salary:
Research Assistant: Grade R1 from £36,390 to £38,388 per annum inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £39,432 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution. (Pro-rata for Part-time)
Research Fellow: Grade R1 from £40,507 to £43,929 per annum inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to £47,671 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution. (Pro-rata for Part-time)
Hours: Full-time
Contract Type: Fixed-term for six months

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Research Fellow to work in the group of Dr Abhishek Lahiri in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Brunel University London. The appointee will develop hydrometallurgical and electrochemical routes for recycling battery wastes. A key feature of the project will be to understand the leaching efficiency and electrochemical behaviour in deep eutectic solvents to recover metal values using various characterisation techniques including ICP-OES and X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
The postholder should have good understanding of hydrometallurgical process, evaluating electrochemical reactions using various electrochemical techniques and have relevant experience in materials characterisation. The appointee will be part of a collaborative team and will be required to present results and contribute significantly to discussions.
The successful candidate will have research experience in chemical engineering, materials Science, or a closely related subject. Expertise in mineral processing/extractive metallurgy and electrochemistry are essential. They should have an appropriate publication track record, a demonstrated commitment to excellence, and exceptional skills in waste recycling. They will be expected to work closely with existing group members and collaborative team, provide supervision and support to undergraduate and postgraduate students, and have effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
