About us
Directed by Mark Miodownik, this job will form part of the multidisciplinary UCL Plastic Waste Innovation Hub research team and will interface with the wider UKRI Technology Missions Fund project ‘Preventing Plastic Pollution with Engineering Biology (P3EB) Mission Hub, led by Portsmouth University. The aims of the project are to tackle urgent plastic pollution problems, design-out waste and create high value end products.
About the role
We are seeking a Research Fellow to carry out policy research and interface with policymakers, industries, third sector and citizens across the plastics circular economy themes of manufacturing, repair and reuse, recycling and reprocessing, and the bioeconomy.
About you
· A PhD in environmental design, policy or engineering or equivalent in relevant subject area. · Strong knowledge of mixed methods and policy research approaches. · In depth knowledge of the plastics circular economy including design, manufacturing, repair and reuse, recycling and reprocessing. · In depth knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and policies relating the the plastics circular economy. · Experience of data collection and analysis. · Experience in planning and organisation of a research programme. · Willingness to work positively with researchers across disciplines. · Strong commitment to high-quality research. · Experience of working with the public, media and external stakeholders. · Excellent writing skills and ability to produce summary reports synthesising complex literature and reviews succinctly. · Ability to work closely with multiple, diverse team, including stakeholders and the public. · Ability to work with databases and integrated websites. · Skilled communicator with the ability to advise and present research to the project team and the public. · Ability to exercise initiative and judgement in carrying out research tasks. · Ability to make decisions, balance priorities and meet deadlines. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and recognising when advice / input needs to be sought. · Ability to organise and manage time to perform duties to a high standard. · Ability and willingness to develop existing skillsets and acquire new skills as necessary in a changing environment.
