Within Engineering, the UCL Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering is a multidisciplinary department renowned for innovation and excellence in research and teaching. We are ranked in the Top 50 worldwide for civil and structural engineering according to the 2021 QS World University and Subject rankings. You will be joining our team of multi-disciplinary technicians in the department’s EE laboratory engaged on projects with world leading academics and researchers in the field of Environmental Engineering. This post works closely with academics, researchers and technical staff, to provide professional technical support for the CEGEs Environmental Engineering Laboratory, including maintenance of facilities and equipment, and provision of training, advice and guidance to all lab users. To provide practical technical support to research and teaching and to facilitate in the effective and efficient day to day running of the Environmental Engineering Laboratory. On occasions you will be required to work in other laboratories and at other UCL sites. Ideally a background in environmental engineering with a post graduate degree. A good knowledge of chemistry and biology and their application in environmental research and teaching. Experience of laboratory work and a practical ability to design/setup bespoke small scale experimental apparatus. Experience of analytical methods and material characterization techniques. Good knowledge and experience of health & safety regulations gained from working in a wet laboratory. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently. Familiarity working with compressed gases, autoclave, fume cupboard, bio-safety cabinet, microscopies, ball mill etc. Able to work with undergraduate students on delivery of environmental laboratory sessions and setting up of equipment and preparation of materials.
