£32,070 – £33,987 plus 2 weekend increments of £930 per annum and sleep-in allowances paid when applicable
About the Role
The London Borough of Hounslow is seeking a Residential Support Worker to join the Early Intervention and Special Needs Education Department, specifically within the Westbrook Short Breaks Unit. This role involves working on a rostered rota that reflects the needs of the service or as required by the Assistant Managers and Registered Unit Manager. You will assist in the day-to-day running of the Unit, providing a comprehensive range of services to children and young people with physical or learning disabilities and their families/carers, aiming to maximise life opportunities and experiences.
You will follow policies and procedures set by the Department and Unit, including compliance with the Children Act 1989, Care Standards Act 2000, National Minimum Standards, and Children's Homes Regulations 2015. Working as part of a team, you will provide a high standard of care that meets the needs of children and young people receiving short break services or being Looked After, safeguarding and promoting their well-being.
The role requires following an assessment framework that includes care planning and risk assessment, considering the physical, psychological, emotional, health, behavioural, and developmental needs of children and young people with disabilities.
The Westbrook Short Breaks and Resource Unit provides high quality short breaks and flexible support services to disabled children and young people, supporting them to live within their family and community. The service offers a safe, nurturing environment that recognises children’s rights, promotes opportunity, and provides stimulating, creative, and varied environments to maximise quality of life and independence.
Experience
Experience working with children and young people in residential, childcare, teaching, or youth work settings is essential.
Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 in Social Care with Children (or Workforce Diploma Level 3 in Residential Childcare as of April 2012) or equivalent is essential. Candidates must hold this qualification on appointment or be committed to achieving it within 12 months of starting.
An enhanced DBS check is required.
Sound knowledge of relevant legislation including The Children’s Home Regulations 2015, The Children Act 1989, National Minimum Standards, Care Standards Act 2000, and Ofsted legislation is necessary.

- Knowledge of the care and developmental needs of children and young people with learning or physical disabilities, emotional and behavioural difficulties, and sensory impairments.
- Ability to undertake responsibility for ensuring departmental policies and statutory regulations are observed.
- Commitment to working within safeguarding policies to ensure the protection and well-being of children and young people.
- Ability to record, report, and communicate significant information clearly and concisely to colleagues, parents, and professionals.
- Experience in key working responsibilities including devising, implementing, and reviewing care plans and training programmes, completing risk assessments, and focusing on maximising life opportunities.
- Respect for confidentiality and the dignity of others at all times.
This role requires a command of spoken English sufficient for effective job performance in accordance with the Code of Practice on English language requirements for public sector workers.
