Harlequins were the 2020/21 Double English Champions across Men’s and Women’s rugby. Founded in 1866, Harlequins is one of the most iconic rugby clubs recognised around the world and is proud to be a founding member of the RFU, boasting more Presidents than any other club, as well as a healthy dose of current and legendary Men’s and Women’s international players. As leaders of the game, we are ambitious to build on our success. To do this we move at tempo, we are unconventional in our thinking and approach, and we recognise the value that each role in the team plays in delivering success. Our Community team are central to the current and future growth of the Club via affiliate clubs, the local community and schools engagement, and our Community Rugby Development Officers play a pivotal role in planning, coordinating and delivering all community based activity and events, ensuring that they are executed to the highest level in terms of quality and engagement. The role in brief: Success on the pitch demands even more success off the pitch so the club is strengthening its Community Coaching staff as it looks to drive continued engagement with our fans. With a growing portfolio of match days, events and camps, the next few seasons are one of unprecedented opportunity for the Community Department. As a result, Harlequins is looking to recruit Community Rugby Development Officers to play a vital role in the growth and development of existing and future programmes. The ideal candidate will have worked in a sporting environment, have first class communication skills and a passion for sport. The Responsibilities: • The RDO will be responsible for promoting and developing the sport of rugby within a specified region / Constituent Body (County). This includes facilitating partnerships, coaching players, educating coaches, and fostering relationships with local schools, clubs, and communities. The RDO's primary goal will be to increase participation / engagement in the sport and elevate the standard of rugby at all levels. • Develop and implement a strategic development plan for rugby within their designated region, in line with Community Department’s guidelines and objectives. • The RDO will have monthly KPIs to measure their success on delivering the above, including but not limited to the following: o Player engagement levels with within their designated region via rugby delivery, guest coaching, working with the local Constituent Body (County) o Number of players booked onto affiliate club camps within their designated region. o Develop strong relationships with their assigned affiliate clubs e.g. club visits, guest coaching sessions across the various club sections (both female and male players). o Identify potential school partnerships within their designated region for rugby delivery, both paid for and taster sessions for schools without existing rugby programmes. • Delivering high quality coaching to a variety of age grade groups from U7s - Adult in schools, affiliate clubs and camp environments. • Support the Community Partnership Executive on affiliate club engagement programmes including (but not limited to) match day experiences e.g. Big Game and home fixture block ticket sales. • Work as part of the Community match day activation team including coaching clinics, refereeing tournaments and organising on-pitch activation. • Continually explore ways and opportunity to expand the Community team’s remit and grow brand and audience awareness. • Responsibility for monitoring and evaluation of relevant programmes. Qualifications / Experience: Qualifications / Experience: Essential / Desirable: England Rugby Coaching Award (Level 2) England Rugby Advanced Coaching Award (Level 3) Essential Desirable A Level or equivalent education standard Essential Valid driving license Essential Previous community coaching experience in school/camp setting Essential RFU DBS certificate Desirable First Aid certificate Desirable Sports related degree qualification Desirable Personal and Technical Skills: • Good knowledge and understanding of the RFU age grade rugby regulations. • Outstanding communication and organisational skills. • Good working knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint software packages. • Energetic, enthusiastic, and inspiring coach with the ability to deliver high quality sessions to a wide range of participants – both male and female. • Organised, reliable and professional to ensure that the Harlequins brand is constantly upheld.
