About the Role
Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayor’s environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate also leads on regeneration (non-housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.
We are expanding the Green Infrastructure and Climate Adaptation teams to deliver the Mayor’s ‘Delivering a Greener and More Climate-Resilient London’ mandate and delivery plan. These teams focus on enabling Londoners to enjoy green and wild spaces, and ensuring the city is resilient to extreme weather and climate change impacts.
We are recruiting three Senior Policy and Programme Officers to lead portfolios of work developing policy, evidence and delivering green infrastructure projects and programmes. The multidisciplinary team covers parks, urban greening, trees, biodiversity, rewilding, data & evidence, strategy & planning, green finance and more.
Successful candidates will have strong environment policy knowledge, proven stakeholder engagement skills, and experience communicating effectively across diverse audiences, ideally within political environments. You will demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, matrix environment.
Specialist knowledge is required in at least one of the following areas:
- Ecology, biodiversity and/or conservation land management with urban nature recovery focus
- Funding and green finance investment mechanisms for green infrastructure in urban areas
- Green space, urban greening and/or landscape design and management
- Complex programme management in an environmental context
The role involves strategic green and blue infrastructure projects including rewilding and a clean and healthy waterways plan. The work is innovative and evolving, requiring comfort with ambiguity, minimal instruction, and the ability to translate senior leadership requests into clear action.
Typical duties include project management and governance, translating Mayoral priorities into delivery, advising on project feasibility and outcomes, identifying funding opportunities, embedding equality, diversity and inclusion into programmes, managing communications, maintaining project records, and managing stakeholder and supplier relationships.
Experience
- Proven track record managing relevant programmes or projects delivering results on time and within budget
- Effective use of project management skills, methods and tools
- Good understanding of green infrastructure issues and challenges in London
- Expertise in at least one of the following:
• Ecology, biodiversity and/or conservation land management with urban nature recovery knowledge
• Funding and green finance investment mechanisms for green infrastructure
• Green space, urban greening and/or landscape design and management
• Complex environmental programme management
- Commitment to equality and diversity in applied contexts (experience in environment or green infrastructure preferred)

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and politically sensitive environment with ambiguity and iterative change

No specific qualifications are mandated, but relevant experience and expertise in green infrastructure and programme management are essential.
