Job Location: UK based hybrid working (flexible across the UK)
Salary: £41,680 to £49,136 per annum pro rata based on 35 hours per week (plus £3,344 London Weighting if applicable)
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract to the end of December 2024
A fantastic opportunity to join a leading international humanitarian organisation as Senior Service Designer. You will be taking responsibility for embedding and improving service design at the British Red Cross working in the UK crisis and emergency response team with a newly formed product team working with our; user researcher, content designer, delivery manager, product manager and Data and insight lead.
Your work will be guided by the Red Cross' principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality.
You will lead on and support the end-to-end redesign of online and offline services and the design of new digital products. You will ensure that users are at the heart of our design and development process, whilst providing a pivotal contribution to the British Red Cross and its pioneering, digital future.
A day in the life of the Senior Service Designer will include:
Work with the service area to define and re-design strategically important services and products, within a complex and rapidly changing external environment.
Work with others to identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency within existing services
Understand the existing supporting system of a service and design targeted improvements to that system to accommodate the new service - both digital and process based.
Rapidly build and test prototypes that help people in crisis.
Research and understand user needs, and use these to inform strategically significant decisions and to create rational user journeys.
Ensure delivery of excellent services by creating an enabling environment for good design to happen, including facilitating difficult conversations and decisions with senior stakeholders.
Understand the breadth of user, business and technical needs and communicate these effectively to different audiences.
Support the team in defining and implementing Agile working practices, remaining flexible to respond to what is and isn't working.
Work closely with internal teams and third-party agencies to deliver sustainable and scalable services and to ensure that these meet users and organisational need
Coach and mentor other members of the team and colleagues in other departments on what design is and the value it adds.
Act as the user advocate during the research, design and development process, subjecting early-stage designs to usability testing or expert review and offering implementation suggestions from a user-centred perspective.
Your responsibilities as a Senior Service Designer will include:
Shaping and scoping research and design priorities
Prototyping, testing, analysing and refining products or processes that help people in crisis, using tools such as Miro, Figma and Invision
Leading on the design of new services and products
Supporting the redesign and transformation of existing products and services
Supporting the facilitation of workshops to prioritise, design and define opportunities
Researching and understanding user needs, organisation and policy goals, and using these to reduce or remove issues and problems
Understanding, visualising and mapping the whole supporting system of a service and designing targeted and useful service improvements
Championing service design, digital transformation and agile ways of working
Using artefacts and deliverables, including personas, user scenarios, user journeys, service blueprints, summary reports, show and tell decks and blog posts to successfully advocate for users and communicate progress
