Full-time
Description
. Make valuable contributions as a Sponsored Reserved Firefighter
We're recruiting firefighters who will work as civilian firefighters day to day at a UK Royal Air Force Station, but will also be called upon to become a member of the military and support operations and exercises in potentially challenging environments.
Sponsored Reserves are crucial in providing Defence with a mission-critical service which enables the military to operate in the UK, overseas and on operations. You'll join a team that's continuously developing and investing in crews and equipment as we maintain an efficient, flexible, and sustainable fire and rescue capability for Defence, and be on hand to offer assistance when needed in the military.

Being an SR allows you to undertake specialist activities that may be required in an operational environment. This unique role is an opportunity to experience the best of both worlds by combining a civilian with a military career. Every day you'll be able to make valuable contributions to Defence operations in every aspect of your role.
What you'll be doing:
You'll be part of the RAF Firefighter force which provides the Aerodrome & Rescue Firefighting capability to Defence across the UK and overseas. In the UK, you'll be ready to respond to and fight fires as well as rescue from military aircraft if required. You'll provide a first response to emergencies on the Defence estate and assist in providing fire safety awareness to Station personnel.
When deployed in the UK and overseas, you'll be required to support operations and exercises in potentially challenging environments. You'll be trained to use highly specialised vehicles and equipment. You'll work in a close-knit, dedicated team on the aerodrome, and daily tasks will include ensuring that specialised vehicles and equipment are tested and inspected whilst also maintaining and honing your professional firefighter skills.
Our locations include:
• RAF Benson - Oxfordshire
• RAF Brize Norton - Oxfordshire
• RAF Odiham - Hampshire
• RAF Northolt - Ruislip, Middlesex London
• RAF Coningsby - Lincolnshire
• RAF Waddington - Lincolnshire
• RAF Marham - Norfolk
• RAF Lossiemouth - Morayshire
What we're looking for:
We're recruiting people from the armed forces, as well as civilians with and without previous firefighting experience.
To be eligible you must:
• Be a citizen of the UK or Republic of Ireland, holder of a dual UK/other nationality passport, or have been a Commonwealth citizen from birth. You should have resided in the UK for 5 years immediately preceding your application (candidates with a minimum of 3 years will be considered)
