Strategies Directorate leads on setting the long-term direction for HMRC, defining and articulating the HMRC enterprise-level strategy and establishing a core set of strategy products and strategic mechanisms that support delivery of HMRC’s Vision, Purpose and strategic objectives. The Directorate works with colleagues across HMRC to develop robust strategies, either by taking the lead in designing these directly or providing analysis, insight and design support to business groups and directorates. The work involves strategic thinking, analysis, influencing, and clear communication. Strategies is a small, friendly and inclusive directorate, sitting within a large and diverse organisation. The Consultancy, Skills and Engagement (CaSE) team is a new team in HMRC Strategies Directorate that seeks to improve HMRC’s strategy skills by building the capability of its strategists and directly supporting the development of strategy across HMRC. The team’s work is varied and covers: Delivering a new internal consultancy service to the department which supports teams to develop strategies and ensure they align with the department’s overall direction, whether a local business-area strategy or a cross-HMRC level strategy.Development and maintenance of an online strategy skills and community hub. The hub supports strategists within HMRC to develop their strategy skills and aims to build a supportive community of strategists.Finalising a set of strategy skills learning packages designed to enable colleagues in HMRC to build essential strategy skills and access the tools, techniques and concepts needed to be a skilled strategy professional.Curating a programme of events including lunch and learns and seminars to build strategy knowledge, capability and community across HMRC.Maintaining and developing the Strategy Development Framework, which provides strategy colleagues with guidance and tools involved in each stage of strategy development.As a member of the Strategies directorate, you will be expected to play an active part in the development and the corporate leadership of the directorate.This role will report directly to a Grade 7 Team Leader within the Consultancy, Skills and Engagement team.
