What does a Team Manager (Environmental Protection Unit) do at Hillingdon?
Driving forward innovative and dynamic solutions across our Environmental Health service, we’re recruiting for an experienced Environmental Protection leader to develop and lead a team of dedicated EHO’s and noise and nuisance officers whilst contributing to our specialist technical functions of Contaminated Land, Planning and Licensing Consultations, Air Quality, IPPC Permitting and technical noise investigations, always ensuring a high-quality service is delivered to our residents.
Taking responsibility for leading this highly technical and specialist area, you’ll develop key connections with our planning and licensing services teams whilst dealing with major infrastructure projects across the Borough, working closely with the Environmental Protection Officers supervising investigations, consultations for planning / licensing applications, section 61 applications, members inquiries, and ensuring high standards and robust enforcement actions.
Working in collaboration with internal and external partners, and the wider management teams to implement change and deliver improvements in service delivery.
Key Responsibilities include:
Leadership of the Environmental Protection Unit
Supervise the team’s caseload of complex cases
Mentor and coach members of the team when called upon for guidance / advice / technical knowhow
Developing and delivering the service plan in line with corporate strategies
Development of key strategies and policies in relation to Environmental Protection
About you
With a demonstrable background of working within Environmental Protection and team management, you’ll have experience of assessing, negotiating, and providing advice on complex investigations, delivering projects and programmed work whilst always contributing to positive team outcomes.
You’ll be able to evidence examples of using your communication and influencing skills to work in collaboration with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including elected members, managing your caseload as well as completing reactive work demands within a timely manner.
Displaying an expert understanding of Environmental Protection, you’ll be able to identify opportunities to implement continuous improvement initiatives and embed a culture of ‘putting residents first’.
Key skills / experience to evidence within your application:
Environmental Health or other relevant qualification specialising in Environmental Protection
Thorough knowledge and understanding of statutory policies, legislative and regulatory frameworks
Politically astute with expert investigatory and negotiation skills, and ability to influence decision making
Successful track record leading on a team / contributing to service improvement
Build long term effective relationships working in collaborations to identify solutions
What we offer
The role offers a competitive salary of £55,155 – £59,328 per year. The role also attracts a £3,000 market factor supplement. New employees are usually offered the starting salary of the band, however for more experienced candidates’ consideration may be made to join at a salary on a higher level within the band.
