About the Role
The Academic Skills Adviser supports students in developing their knowledge, skills and behaviours related to robust academic and study skills. Working across portfolios, the role involves delivering curriculum-embedded workshops, pan-university workshops, personalised one-to-one support, and developing a digital hub of self-help learning resources focused on English for Academic Purposes, broader study skills, and maths, statistics and numeracy. This role fosters an inclusive and accessible environment that enables students to shape their learning and engage in activities tailored to their needs.
The service is available to all students, including those with general disabilities and specialist learning differences, requiring the adviser to have specialist knowledge and qualifications to support students receiving disabled student allowance.
Key responsibilities include contributing to the design, development and delivery of academic skills workshops across the Middlesex programme portfolio for all student levels; developing bespoke academic skills programmes; providing clinic-style one-to-one support; collaborating on a technology-enabled digital Academic Skills Hub; offering specialist support for students with learning differences; contributing to intervention programmes to boost continuation and support regulatory targets such as the Teaching Excellence Framework and Access and Participation Plan; participating in pan-university events including welcome, induction and graduation; and undertaking other duties as requested by Education and Student Experience leadership.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in delivering academic skills support and workshops across diverse student groups is desirable. Specialist knowledge in supporting students with disabilities and learning differences is essential.

Qualifications
Relevant specialist qualifications to support students in receipt of disabled student allowance are required. A background in academic skills, study skills, English for Academic Purposes, or related fields is expected.
