About the Role
HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our Admin Officers play a critical role, providing excellent administrative support and customer service to court users, judiciary and management. Working as part of a team, you will contribute to the overall operational, performance and service standard targets across your area of work. You will progress cases through the court/tribunal system and provide administrative support to functions within HMCTS. You will have regular contact with court and tribunal users, including members of the Judiciary and the legal profession.
Your duties will include preparing papers and files for court, tribunals, hearings and meetings; creating and updating records on in-house computer systems; accurately resulting courts and interpreting court file information; checking and verifying documents, records, accounts, claims and returns against criteria, regulations or procedures; collecting and assembling information for returns, results, accounts, statements, warrants, statistical analysis and reports; and communicating with the public, judiciary, other court and tribunal users, and representatives of other agencies and organisations.
This is a customer-facing operational role requiring office-based work to provide HMCTS services to the public. The role demands adaptability, multi-tasking and effective time management in a busy environment.
Experience
Experience in providing administrative support and customer service is desirable but not essential. You should be comfortable working in a busy environment and supporting court users to navigate the justice system.
About you
You will have a friendly and approachable manner with excellent attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential. You should be able to organise your time effectively, prioritise tasks efficiently, and adapt to using various software packages. A commitment to public service and making a difference in people’s lives is important.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are stated as mandatory. However, the ability to use computer systems confidently and a desire to develop a career with real purpose within the Civil Service are important.
Additional Information
This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas under current immigration rules. Successful applicants must have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the UK Civil Service. Flexible working arrangements are considered in line with the Ministry of Justice’s policies.
