About the Role
As an Anaesthetic Practitioner at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality perioperative care. You will prepare the anaesthetic room and equipment in line with national and local guidelines, facilitating the delivery of safe surgery according to recognised pathways such as NatSSIPs2 and GPAS. You will welcome patients, undertake pre-anaesthesia and WHO checks, and work closely with anaesthetists to provide excellent care, anticipating the needs of patients and the wider team to ensure smooth theatre lists and minimise delays.

You will provide clinical advice to junior anaesthetists when required and be proficient in managing anaesthetic emergencies. Maintaining IV cannulation skills across a wide patient age range is essential. You will ensure controlled drugs are managed and recorded correctly and that all consumables and equipment are stored safely and available for emergencies.

Promoting a safe working environment is key, adhering to Infection Prevention and Control, Health and Safety, Information Governance, and Safeguarding policies. You will maintain accurate documentation, ensure compliance with Trust Medicines Policy, and actively seek training on all relevant equipment.

In addition to clinical duties, you will act as a role model and mentor, supporting junior staff and students, assisting with induction and orientation, and contributing to local policy development. You will promote a positive, inclusive working environment and uphold the Trust’s PROUD values.

Professionalism is paramount; you will maintain registration, comply with HCPC/NMC standards, complete mandatory training, participate in appraisals, and manage stress effectively. You will be accountable for your actions, communicate effectively, and treat all individuals with respect and dignity, championing Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity.

This role requires flexibility and resilience to work in sometimes difficult and emotive environments, supporting colleagues’ mental well-being and adapting to change as necessary. This description is not exhaustive and may be subject to change following consultation.
